Hi,

1st problem: My idle became erratic, and the car would stall intermittently.

2nd problem: ABS codes. Sometimes the ABS will activate at lower speeds for no reason. ABS and brake light in dash on intermittent. I've reset this, it keeps returning.

TIA,
Dan

That scan brings back memories. Not the faults so much, but the car.

If you haven't already done so, remove throttle body from manifold and give throttle body a thorough cleaning. Use contact cleaner and conditioner on the electrical connector. Whether that actually fixes it remains to be seen, but it doesn't cost much more than some time.

As for the ABS... I fear your ABS module is starting to fail. Even when these cars were new, 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) codes were more often due to a wonky ABS module than an actual problem with the pump. Add in all those wheel speed sensor faults and well... Of course it couldn't hurt to check all connections (especially grounds!) first and again, apply some contact conditioner before condemning it.

In addition to what Uwe said........

You may find that an ignition switch could be all your ABS troubles...........
Use a factory one.

The TV will most likely clean up........

Very important after cleaning two things......... lube it and then make sure the butterfly moves backward 5MM before it moves forward to do its adaption.

Make sure battery is in proper order and alternator is not in overcharge condition issue.

I sprayed the throttle body shaft and spring area with silicone lubricant without taking anything apart. It works fine now. That's very interesting about how the butterfly moves backward 5MM.

Thanks!

Silicone lubricant in the intake is a bad idea. Oxygen sensors hate that stuff.

It began to stall on start up again. I installed a junk yard throttle body from another "1H". That cured the stalling. But now I get a P1580-35-00, the original code was P1580-35-10. I cleaned up the original throttle body, which was totally jammed on the moving backward 5MM part. I got it to free up nicely and reinstalled it. The car runs fine, but I have the
17988 - Throttle Actuator (Bank 1)

P1580 - 35-00 - Malfunction - Intermittent

I fixed the running problem and still have a code. I must be missing something. :banghead:

The throttle control basic setting status shows an error.

In the Set Readyness program step 3 I never get ADP Run, or ADP OK.

I specifically went to the throttle body alignment procedure and ran it. The software did not indicate that it ran. However, when I started the car, the idle went up to about 3,000 and then settled down nicely to under 1,000. The check engine light went off, and stayed off.

Sometimes software gives users messages that are in error. In this case, the alignment was successful, yet I was looking at an error message.

Field 4 never said "ADP Run",or "ADP OK". All criteria for the test had been met.

What you see in Field 4 is not a question of "the software" (VCDS). It's what the ECU is telling VCDS to put there.

What do you have in Field 4 now when you look at it with measuring values?

Sounds like I may have a bad ECU. It told VCDS to display an erroneous value. And maybe the error code was false to begin with, as the car ran fine.

I just sold the car after 13 years of ownership. The buyer flew into town, then drove it over a thousand miles to get it home. It ran flawlessly. I'm so glad a true enthusiast got the car.

Thanks for your interest and support on the forum.

Would anyone like to buy a VCDS cable?
