Hi, guys this is my first post here on the forum, I am looking for some advice on an issue with an intermittent fault 28823 No communications with airbag control module (U0151) code that has appeared ever since my local VW dealership changed my complete engine, cat converter, pre-cat down pipe, fuel injectors, pre & post cat lambda sensors, fuel filter (these were changed because the dealer used the wrong oil grade in my engine and seriously ?#?#?# it up!). The fault code has appeared under the engine module and no other fault codes in any other module are present. It appears to be intermittent and my initial thoughts are a connection issue?

First the auto-scan data:-

Following on from my initial email to RossTech support, thank you Jef for your initial email and pointers to this forum.

As suggested, I have had a look at measuring block 126 and the values are:= Airbag 1, Cent. Elec 1. these values remain at 1. I have also noticed that the reset counter has risen to 32. I am assuming that this figure will continue to rise until reaching 255? Am I right in assuming that if it reaches that point without any further fault condition, this would archive this fault and return the log to no fault found?
What my thought process is, that when the dealership changed the engine, they I assume would have had to disconnect this engines ECU to facilitate the engine change and perhaps some dampness has got into the connection causing this fault, or like I suggested previously perhaps have not connected the harness properly. As this workmanship is under my VW dealerships' 2 year warranty, I might get them to rectify this. But any feedback would still be greatly received, as I am still sceptical of the dealership, after all, they did put the wrong grade of oil in my car to begin with eh?

Hello John,
i would delete the fault, look into MWB 126 in "01" for BUS communication while moving the wiring.:)

Hi, AIB Wolfgang

Thanks for your reply. I shall give that a try. I'm assuming that the wiring goes through to the ECU in the engine bay from the airbag control unit inside the vehicle?

Kind regards
John

Hi John,
no. All connected to Gateway "19". Try to read the power train bus also in "19".

Hi AIB Wolfgang,

Just a quick update, tried various 'cable wriggling' whilst monitoring measuring block 126, could not get the fault to re appear and the measuring block status remained at 1. Just had my local Volkswgen dealership service the car and run it through its MOT - passed no problems. They looked into the CAN Bus error and couldn't find a fault, so just reset the error code. I will need to keep a close eye on it myself, as not even the VW dealer could find what was throwing up this intermittent error code! I explained to the dealer that I could reset the fault easily myself, what I wanted was an explanation! after collecting my car from the dealership, I have checked it again, they have deleted the fault. Will keep you posted if it returns, which I am sure it will.
