Adapting Driver/Passenger seat module/memory

I have replaced BOTH seat control modules as niether seat was operating when I bought the car.
When ONLY the driver's module is connected then everything works, including memory function - for the driver's seat only of course.

I found what looks like a solution at http://www.audi-portal.com/en/diagnostic/ecu_10115.html as below:

I Procedure if address word 36 in both control units.
J Ignition off
J Unplug all connectors between seat and vehicle body from both seats, except airbag.
J Ignition on, ignition off
J Connect only front passenger seat
J Ignition on
J Run program J136 - Seat memory control unit, adaption to DS/PS
J Connect driver seat
J Interrogate and if necessary erase both fault memories
J Check functioning of seats

The problem is I can't "Run program J136". Please can anyone tell me if this can be done using VCDS? (And, obviously, how?)

I don't see any adaptations for seat adjustment in http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A6/S6/RS6/allroad_(4F)

I do see that your can read the seat module assignment in MVB 130/131 as per http://www.audi-portal.com/en/diagnostic/ecu_10117.html#1 so I have logged all the MVBs below (just for driver's seat of course):

I have put the passenger seat module back. Now, both seats have full movement except for the back adjustment and neither seat can SET memory, though the driver's seat will return to the positions previously set on buttons '1' and '2'. In summary, back adjustment and memory setting don't work.

Please post the complete Auto-Scan and if one of those controllers (06 or 36) are not communicating let us know what the part numbers from each control unit are. That should let us know if they should be plug and play with unique address words as opposed to needing identity configuration via Adaptation for each address (06 versus 36) so both will communicate.

Although I suspect this is a 4F0 controller I dug into B8/8T0 stuff and located Adaptation channel 001 (Reset Control Unit Address). If both of these modules have the identical part number I believe you would need to do the following:

Unplug the Passenger unit, connect to 36-Driver and change Adp channel 001 from 2 to the new value of 1 followed by testing/saving, exiting and make sure to cycle the ignition. Make sure 36 still communicates with VCDS before plugging the other controller back in!​

If the modules do not have identical part numbers ignore that suggestion.

Thanks Dana, I decided to try out the "B8/8T0 stuff" you found - at my own risk of course! And.....whoops! The Component Protection that Audi had previously
removed (at great expense) has come back.

I tested the driver seat memory and it worked fine.

Then I plugged the passenger seat module in. That module definitely still had Adaptation 001=2. Again I did the seat forward/back/forward+5 seconds, and the 'Set' button lit when I tried it, and I heard a 'beep' when I pressed '1' to store the position. Then I moved the seat and pressed (only) '1' to set it back to the memory position but nothing happened.

The driver's seat memory no longer worked either.

You will notice that both seats (36 and 06) now have a problem with an "implausible coding pin".

And the driver's seat (36) now has Component Protection Active which I previously had removed by Audi. Looks like another trip to the dealer for that. Whoops!

Both seats have forward and back, and rake, and lumbar movement on the buttons; but no backrest movement, and no memory; which isn't the end of the world, it would just be nice to get it all working.

Perhaps Jack is right, maybe one of the modules is duff!

And finally, I re-checked the Adaptation 001 settings: the driver's seat had reset to '2' and the passenger seat had set itself to '1'; though they were both '2' before I started.

This is strange. The Component Protection is a bummer but that Adaptation tweak appears to have both controllers online and communicating at this point in time. The Coding bridges (or coding pins) however could be a possible wiring discrepancy ... or I provided wrong side of the pond adaptation values. If our left and rights are misconfigured it might not hurt to use my previous instructions (before another CP dealer trip!) and do the opposite:

DrvrSeatAdp001=2, PassSeatAdp001=1

Edit: If that resolves the coding pin DTCs I would say the right side of the car (regardless of steering wheel location) = 2. Feedback would be excellent either way!

Backrest on both seats still don't work, though everything else does, including memory, which has been a godsend because everyone who ever works on the car moves the seat waaaay back and all I have to do to set it back is hold the "1" button. Lovely.

So...I took the passenger seat out.
I put power directly onto the backrest motor and it worked fine, in both directions; so the motor is good.
I put power through the 12-pin black block connector (pins 6 and 8) to the motor and it worked fine again.
I checked the switch for continuity; between pin 4 (power in) and pin 5 (backrest switch); and that was OK.

I think this means the problem is in the controller box? My reasoning is that the switch is working, which triggers a 'relay' in the seat controller to send 12V power to either of the cables to the backrest motor, which isn't being sent because if it was then the motor would move. In fact I hear a 'relay-type' click when the backrest switch is operated in one direction, but not the other.

I have searched everywhere to see if there is any kind of setting in the controller that 'enables/disables' the backrest. I can't imagine any need for such a setting.

This location provides Measure Value Blocks (MVB) information for the J136 (Driver's Seat Memory Controller):

So now I know that the controllers 'sees' the backrest button being operated 'forward' and 'back' because it says so in words "forward" and "back" in MVB 002 block 3.

Also, MVB 002 block 4 shows the current backrest position as "8000"; which I guess is OK as the other seat adjustments are also in the 8000 range. BUT the following was interesting:

Measured value block 052:
Maximum software travel, backrest angle adjustment: 2096
Stored value, software block front, backrest angle adjustment: 8000
Stored value, software block rear, backrest angle adjustment: 10960
Stored value, load change counter, backrest angle adjustment: 7

I think this means that the controller software thinks that 8000 is as far forward as the backrest should travel. If so, this might explain why the relay doesn't click when the backrest button is pushed forward, only when it is pushed back. It would be nice to know if that 8000 value can be altered somewhere to test this theory.

I also made a note of the Adaptation fields: 1=2; 2=1; 3=0; 4=1; 5=0; 6=1; 7=65535; 8=248; 9=600; 10=2096; 11=N/A; 12=0.
Though this doesn't currently mean anything to me; except I think that the '2' in field 1 means this is the right side seat (UK driver's seat).

Hi Guys, I am new to the forum and really hope that one of the members can help! - My 7 year old got behind the wheel of my my 2007 Audi A5 3.0TDI Quattro and played with the electric seat buttons - I`m not exactly sure what he did but think that he put the Backrest all the way forward - When I tried to re adjust the seat to the normal position I could only move the backrest in the reclining position with no forward movement available and now after several attempts to fix and recalibrate the seat module by moving the seat to its end limits, I have fully reclined the backrest and it will not move to the upright position - All other functions of the seat work! - I have switched the Seat Control Module with the fully functional Passenger Seat Control Module and have also switched the Seat Buttons/Switches and the problem stayed with the Driver Seat so I know that the problem is not the Seat Switch Modules or the Seat Control modules - Having put everything back as stock, I am now getting the errors:

03330 - Motor for Fore/Aft Adjustment
005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation

I am hoping that it is possible for me to reprogram / Readapt the Seat Control Module - Any help or advise in solving this is greatly appreciated! - Thank you very Much in advance for any help provided!

..So I have made some progress - I took the back of the seat off and now know what wires power the Backrest Motor - There are 4 wires - 2 of which are larger gauge = 1 brown & yellow to pin 1 of the 12 pin port on the Module and 1 red & yellow to pin 6 of the 12 pin port on the module. The 2 lighter guage wires are 1 green & brown with the other being blue & brown - I am not sure of the pin numbers but these go to the smaller 10 pin port on the controls module. - I am planning on sending 12 volts to the backrest motor from an external battery to get it back in an upright position - I assume that the larger gauge wires are the power runs but the smaller wires are now confusing me - can I just apply the 12 volts to pin 1 and pin 6 altering the polarity by swapping the positive and negative from my external battery? - any ideas or advice before I proceed?

Thanks for that Petrol Dave - I will try to post som pics soon! - I got the seat buck up! - +12 Volts to pin1 netagtve terminal at Pin 6 - Car Battery was disconnected to be on the safe side!

.....I am coming to the same conclusion that Rick916 came to - questioning if there is some control function of the seat control module which disables the 12V to the backrest motor if the for & Aft limits are reached/pushed - does any body know if it is possible to "unblock the module" if this is the case?
