Retro Fitting Brembo 17Z 6 Piston Callipers to MY08 T2 Touareg

I am about to retrofit a pair of 17Z Brembo Callipers to an MY08 V6 TDI and would like find out if the ABS Coding is any different on a vehicle fitted with 6 Piston callipers compared with the 4 Piston units fitted to the V6 TDI.

I am looking at units fitted with the ESP ALLRAD MK25E1 model ABS unit, rather than the T1 Pre MY08 (7LA) version,.

Can anybody provide any key values to the Coding Field in the ABS Module?

The code field in most "short code" option in VW land are a sum value of a number of sub components, so far the only value I am aware of is the change to add ACC to my car.

00004482 + 2048 = 0006530

Does anybody have are table of options for this module?

EG; +1243 = xxxxx or +3421 = yyyyy etc....

Or is this code positional as it is in the Bosch 5.3 5.7 series , where the position in the code describes a component/function, eg: 000x?xx where position ? describes the option.

Any advice will be gladly received.

I think you have drawn an improper conclusion. There have been 62 views of your thread. Obviously there is interest.

The people in this forum are some of the most knowledgeable people regarding VAG. If information has not been supplied, it is quite possible that none have the answers sought.

Case in point: The Ross-Tech Wiki does not have any information on the ABS coding for your Touareg.

Yes the coding is different, if you have the calipers that look like these [7L6615123S] (PR_1LT)
... and you have automatic transmission without distance regulation. Your coding should be the following:

- Warning the coding below is NOT original to this vehicle and should be considered experimental and potentially dangerous.
Proceed at your own risk! Ross-Tech does not have ANY way to test this coding and your results will be unknown.

adding distance regulation would be (the value provided by DrPeter) + 2048 ??

Yes, you are correct, the coding change is as stated below.
- With Automatic distance regulation = [2048]
- W/out Automatic distance regulation = [0]

I have just done some initial testing , and everything seems to be working correctly.

ABS works well on both paved and unpaved surfaces.

Braking performance feels excellent, and the "seat of pants" meter reports that it feels better than before the recode..(may be wishful thinking).

Stability control is working.

I tested it by applying 90 degree of left lock then immediately 90 degree of right lock to the steering, at 65 km/h on a gravel road. This put the vehicle into a acute broadside, at which instant the stability control kicked in and pulled the vehicle back on line. The instantaneous nature of the recovery was profound and initially a little scary. I repeated this 4 times and every time the recovery (with hands off the wheel) was instant and precise. The last test was done at 75 km/h (45 mph) which was absolutely raucous !!!

Testing was done on a local road which is quite wide and has large grass run off areas on both sides. Testing a system is one thing, bending the car, and myself is another.

I will continue testing over this next weekend, as I will be able test the traction control off road.

I have now added ACC as a retrofit and recoded the ABS to suit, and everything works like its a Factory Build.

Final Scan if anybody can benefit from this....

One final question, is the coding for the ACC Radar Address 13: is 0010000, I have seen a number of units showing 0020000 in the coding, does anybody any input as to the difference. My unit came from Europe and the "2" values was seen on a NAR unit. ????

It has been now over 2 month since retrofitting the 6 Piston Brembo 17Z callipers to MY08 Touareg. I have, in that time, attempted to perform every possible test know to man.
I can confidently say that they are working perfectly, and that success has only been possible through the wonderful support provided by the kind people of this forum.

Just a final update for anybody interested, over Christmas New Year my wife and I did a trip from Melbourne to Port Lincoln in South Australia towing my 20 ft caravan (trailer) which weighs in at about 2100 kg. The new brakes feel fantastic whilst towing this combination. I an very glad I spent the money. The original brakes were very good, but the new 6 piston units are nothing short of excellent.

Firstly, thank you for the coding supplied that allowed me to install the Brembo 17Z 6 Piston calipers on my 2008 V6 TDI. It has now been working well over the past two years and the 6 piston caliper is a dream on the road. Especially allowing for the behavior of some of Melbourne finest drivers....!
All in all not a good result, a great result!

One interesting thing we found, is that this coding works on vehicles with Air Suspension, but on one vehicle, fitted with steel suspension, the code fails to load. I assume that this coding has a dependency on the Level Control module ( Address 34 ) which is absent in the steel sprung vehicle.

If my logic is correct, is there a change that I can make to the current coding (0014722) to allow the steel sprung vehicle to accept it ?

Sorry the vehicle with steel suspension does not have ACC (Distance Regulation), so my question should have been.

Does anybody know if there is a change that can be made to coding 0012674 to allow it to be loaded on a vehicle with steel suspension?
