Hi all,

Just wondering about our 2006 Touran, with the BVY 2.0 FSI NA engine.

It has the Map Controlled Thermostat system, and I'd like to fit a standard thermostat.

I've done it to our BMW, and it logs a code, but doesn't turn on the MIL.

From what I can find, on the Touran ( basically the same as a MK V Golf ) it seems it will log a fault for an open circuit, AND turn on the MIL.

Can I code this out in VCDS?

I had wondered about leaving the old stat plugged in, but fitting the new mechanical one to trick it.

The existing thermostat must be slightly open, as the car takes forever to heat up. I don't want to fit the new expensive version, because I really hope the wheezy 4 cylinder will be turfed out in favour of the 3.2 VR6 fairly soon :-)

Don't take this as an absolutely definitive answer, but I doubt it.

Also, if you remove the ECU's ability to control the coolant temperature, even if you fool it into not setting an open circuit fault, you will probably end up with a different DTC, such as "Error in mapped cooling system".

I suspected as much, but you never know - It appears some models don't have it, but then that would be a different engine code.
