Hi all


First i will present my self my name is Lars and im from Denmark.
A couple of month ago i brought my dream car, a brand new golf.
And a ovner of a vcd-usb that im trying to learn how to use.


My car is a Golf 7 1.4 tsi, dsg7, 5 doors, 140hk, Highline

Adaptiv speedpilot, sleep reg., front assist

I have brought a VW Golf 7 5G0 - Park Assist - PLA - UPGRADE SET at carsystems.pl, but I can´t get it to Work. It must be something i do wrong whit the coding. but i don´t know what.
I hope somebody can help me here, because there are nobody in littel Denmark.

I noticed "Komponent protection"... seems you have added/swapped a part of the car that has component-protection. This part will not work untill the dealer has removed the component protection of this part!

As fas as I know this is not possible with VCDS!

The component protection is listed under Adr. 17 Instrument Cluster, which it would not make sense to exchange for the retrofit in question. I'm unsure, but I think the protection is activated due to incorrect coding as a result of changing something else in the car.

The fault codes in the scan (if the scan is written correctly of course) are stored not in the CAN gateway (19) or the Park Assist (10), but the instrument cluster. The fault codes state, that the instrument cluster has not been coded correctly, and that (perhaps for that reason) component protection is activated. In the scope of delivery is no new instrument cluster, and there is no reason why it should be there either.

I don't see why you should need to code your instrument cluster to achieve this retrofit - I didn't need to atleast. But the incorrect coding can arise from you changing other things in the car as well, meaning that modules the instrument cluster expects to "hear from", no longer "talks".


The coding manual you followed states:

You also mention, that your car already had parking sensors front and rear (if I understand correctly) before the upgrade. If you followed the guide to the letter, then a potential error could be, if you disabled the Control Module for the Park Assist, since it was already present in your car. CarSystems.pl should know this, since they sell an "upgrade" kit that expects you to have PDC front and rear, but the manual you inserted doesn't seem to show that they do.

Therefore, I think we should make sure, that you didn't accidentially disable the module in the CAN Gateway Installation List, and that this is causing all the problems;
  1. Open VCDS, connect your cable to your car, ignition on
  2. Press Control Modules
  3. Press 19 - CAN Gateway
  4. Press Installation List
  5. Locate "10 - Park/Steer Assist" and make sure the box is ticked/enabled
  6. Press Save Config
  7. Wait 10 seconds
  8. Press Fault Codes, and ensure that there are no communication errors
  9. Press Go Back
  10. Press Close Controller - Go Back
  11. Go back to the main menu of VCDS
  12. Go forward again into the Control Modules menu, to find module 10 - Park/Steer Assist now under Installed tab
  13. Enter this module
  14. Press Coding
  15. Press Long Coding Helper
  16. Review the Coding to make sure it's correct - especially that your vehicle model is correct
  17. Also; check that option to display reverse camera is enabled, but do not enable options for "Rear View Camera (Low) Installed" since yours must be a high model
  18. Press Exit
  19. Press Do It!
  20. Wait 10 seconds
  21. View Fault Codes
  22. Press Go Back
  23. Press Close Controller - Go back
  24. Press 17 - Instrument Cluster
  25. Press Fault Codes
  26. Press Clear Codes
  27. Press Go Back
  28. Wait 10 seconds
  29. Press Fault Codes again, and see if component protection and incorrect coding is solved
  30. If not; Go back, Close Controller - Go back, Go back and then AutoScan, Start, and upon completion save the entire scan and upload it here in your reply.

Furthermore, while it isn't mentioned in the guide, and I'm not entirely sure about a Golf 7, you often need to enter 44 - Steering Assist, Adaptation and select Documented Channels, PLA Installation, and in your case select to adapt the channel to PLA 2.0 Installed.

The reason I ask you to do all this is, that the first step in the guide should be unnessacary for anyone buying that kit, and I'm not able to properly assess your skills with VCDS through a simple forum post. If this is all basics to you, then please excuse me and post a full autoscan with your reply, so we may be able to find a more advanced solution. I stress that I'm not trying to talk down to you, but basics first. :) Another thing that puzzles me about the guide is the phrase "Set all to active" - that also raises an alarm in my head.

If the component protection of your instrument cluster persists, you may have to go to a dealership to have it cleared/removed, as it requires online connection to Volkswagens diagnostic systems. It could be though, that it will simply resolve itself after the other errors have been fixed, so I would wait with spending those dollars.

You can also clarify to us if you did or did not recode your instrument cluster? And maybe describe in steps what you did, if the above solution doesn't work.

Nicholeise: Wow - that's a very impressive post ^^^^^! I've just had a look at the wiring diagram for park assist on a mk7 and you are entirely correct. The park assist control module (J791) is largely self contained. The only interface that J791 has with other control modules is a couple of wires into Data bus diagnostic interface (J533), and a single wire from the BCM that supplies power to the switch module on the centre console-EX30 (J791 receives signals from this switch module). I couldn't find any direct connections to the control module for the instrument cluster albeit there may be an indirect route via J533 (since the instrument cluster is also wired to J533). Interesting to see this how this problem unfolds!

I'm not sure I would call the module self contained, since the two wires to J533 (CAN Gateway) that you're refering to, are CAN bus wires connected to the CAN Drive Bus (the bus between steering-, braking- and engine components). This is how the control module achieves the whole "automatic parking" - by transmitting over the CAN bus to the Steering Assist module, which then actuates the turning of the steering wheel, and of course using information from the ABS controller to determine speed, distance and soforth. It also "talks" to the instrument cluster (17) via CAN bus, as it displays directions in the MFA.

The control module itself consists of three plugs; a harness for the front sensors (up to six sensors) and a harness for the rear sensors (also up to six sensors). The last plug is for the "system harness" which has the CAN connections, as well as power for the control module, signal wires from the switch(es) and outputs to the in-switch indication lights. It communicates as follows;
- Each parking sensor shares a common plus and ground, and returns an individual signal wire, that carries a PWM signal to the control unit.
- The switch(es) are hardwired directly to the module - the switch gets it's ground and cabin dimmed instrumentation light supply plus from the CCM along with a ground connection, the rest goes to the control module.
- All other communication (Instrument Cluster, Radio/Nav (for optical parking system), ABS and steering assist) is carried out over the CAN Gateway (19/J533)

When coding the device, you tell it which vehicle it is installed into, and that determines things like if it recieves one switch wire (e.g. Passat 3C) or two switch wires (e.g. Golf), what the vehicle lenght is, which messages to expect from ABS controller, how sharp the vehicle can (and need to) turn, in order to enter a parking space.

There are three versions; PLA (Park Lenkrad Assistant - Park Steering Assistent) 1.0, which is only capable of reverse parallel parking in one movement, the driver has to finish the parking, and it requires a rather long bay. 1.5, which is still only capable of reverse parallel parking, but can do so in several movements and thus making it possible to enter much shorter parking spaces - my Passat for instance, can easily park in a bay just 0,8 meters longer than the car. Both of these versions utilize 6 sensors front, 4 sensors rear - the two "extra" sensors front are mounted perpendicular to the direction of travel (makes sense?) and are used like normal parking sensors, but also to scan to the side. When you activate the function, the sensor at the side you are indicating to (turn signal) scans the distance - long distance = parking space, short distance = car/obstacle. Combining this with the ABS information allows the car to calculate the lenght of the bay, and determine if it can fit. When you engage reverse, the car will also know how long it has travelled since the bay ended, and thus knows when to steer into the parking space. PLA2.0 (as in this thread) contains six sensors front and rear, and is able to do everything PLA1.5 can, but with the addition of being able to park in "normal" perpendicular parking bays like you'd find at a mall. It uses the rear two side-sensors to center itself between the other vehicles - and this is the reason PLA1.5 can't park like that; it would only know if it parked correctly or if it hit something, when it was done parking and the front sensors would be inside the bay.

Due to some differences in the ABS telegrams, the PLA1.5 and 2.0 are not nessacarely compatible into the same vehicle, as there are requirements to the ABS controller. As such, for instance a Passat 3C can go no higher than PLA1.5 without replacing the ABS controller, but of course in this case, it's a brand new car, so it has an ABS controller than supports PLA2.0, which is also confirmed by the number of sensors in the kit. :)

It's a brilliant piece of kit here in Europe, where I live, and has already impressed me alot. It's a bit spooky to see the car just starting to steer on its own, but hey. With the PLA 1.5 and the rear view camera installed, a car like the Passat feels very parkable despite being almost 5 meters long. I wouldn't even begin to try and market this in the US though, atleast in my three vacations there I've never seen anything even resembling a small parking space, but on the other hand I'm sure it might as well come standard in the UK, since there isn't really much generousity about neither road width nor parking bay sizes there. :)

I've been on vacation and had no opportunity to respond .

But where I am now, the car can do everything , both in display and try to park .
But it just can not hit the free parking area .
I can not figure out what is wrong . I would be happy if there are some that have any ideas for what might be wrong.

then you need to coding addrese 01,03,09,10,17,19,44 and 5F

For this model ABS sensors should be okay.
All ECU's are coded.
There was a problem with cable connections.
It is working now.

i think is coding for new ABS sensor is byte 26 value 50( bit 4&6 mark) but I am not sure can any confirmed?
coding for PLA i think byte 24 but i don't know which is value correct
