With Advance Measuring Values, you can cherry pick what live data you wish to view/log. Without getting into too much detail here, on UDS Modules you have to use the [Adv. Meas. Values] function, and on non-UDS modules, if we (Ross Tech) have documentation in the form of a label file for a given control module, then the [Adv. Meas. Values] is a bonus feature.

We often get asked by customers how can they see what all data a given control module can display. If there is a label file for a non-USD module, then you can click on the [Adv. Meas. Values] button and get a list of the documented data Ross Tech has. Now this will be the same data as with [Meas. Blocks - 08], but as noted, you can cherry pick what data you view. You can create lists and save them for later use as well.

From the Open Controller screen, click on the [Adv. Meas. Values] button.

You will have 2 windows opened up:

In the example above, I've gone ahead and cherry picked the live data I wish to view/log. This is the same data as in Measuring Blocks. Notice on the smaller window on the right, the "Loc." column, the 001, 003, 004, ect, those are Measuring Block Groups numbers. And the -1, -2, -3, -4 are the fields 1 to 4. There is no 002 listing because the label file doesn't have information on Measuring Block 002.

So after I've checked off the values I want to view, you can save these settings, click on the tiny VCDS icon that the red arrow is pointing to.

From the drop menu, click on "Save Selection to file..."

Dg5OfvB.png

Give the file a name now, "forum_sample" for demo purposes here, then click on [Save].

Now if at a later date, I wish to view those same cherry picked values, go into [Adv. Meas. Values], click on the tiny VCDS icon, select "Load selection from file..." and locate the profile I created.

Ross Tech has included several helpful profiles as well.

Enjoy.

Is it possible to create custom measuring block files while not connected to the car? I've only tried working with these while sitting in the car, but it would be advantageous to work on building custom files for later use. Thanks.

It is possible, but you have to do it "by hand" (using Notepad).

Is there any way to log a snapshot in time of every available value when using "Advanced Measuring Values" due to measuring blocks not being available. Doing 12 at a time is a bit much when trying to capture all 1000 in a list (for 7 speed dual clutch gearbox). I know I don't need all the data, but the problem is I don't know what I might need! Thanks

It would take a considerable time to get all 1000, so even if we did this, it would not constitute a "snapshot".

If the vehicle is kept in a constant state (Ignition on, Engine on with vehicle stationary, Engine on with cruise engaged on a flat highway) during the considerable time it would achieve the goal of capturing a snapshot. I can write "send keys" scripts in VBA, however cannot work out how to click and unclick the boxes. Any clues as to the keyboard command to do so? Or other avenues to achieve the goal? Thanks

Your ECU uses UDS protocol. There is no "block 93" and I'm not sure what values would correspond to the data that would be found in block 93 in older ECUs.

I used Advanced Measuring Values when checking whether my fans were coming on ... or not. I could watch the temperatures at the radiator OUTLET, at the radiator INLET ... and the precise temperature at which the fans turned ON ... and OFF.

What was interesting is ... the fans are variable speed ... so they might only run at 10% speed initially, or they might increase in speed if cooling requirements were greater. That's why I couldn't "hear" the fans running ... I thought they were broken!

Very useful!

Parameters

Is there a way to see what the expected "normal" values should be with the uds advanced measuring block. I'm specifically looking to know what "camshaft adjustment intake bank 1 actual" should be at warm idle. This would be on 2012 2.0 tsfi

Hello, I'm running VCDS Release 18.2.1

After saving cherry picked live data into file, reloading this file only reloads some cherry picked data not all of them. Is this a bug?

No that's exactly as it's intended. You'll only save the data you choose to, not all of it.

Ok I think you misunderstood. Maby I was not clear. I'll try it once again:

As like in the given example above, I've gone ahead and cherry picked the live data I wish to view/log.
Let say I pick exactly the same 9 pieces of live data as in the given screenshot above, would mean I pick
001-1
001-2
003-2
003-3
003-4
004-2
004-4
005-3
006-4
Then click on "Save Selection to file..." forum_sample

But Now when I wish to view those same cherry picked values,
go into [Adv. Meas. Values], click on the tiny VCDS icon,
select "Load selection from file..." and locate the profile I created,

I only get 3 pieces of live data e.g.
001-1
001-2
004-2

The rest is missing. That is why it looks like a bug to me.

That's strange. What kind of module? UDS? Not UDS? Where is there file being saved? What's in the file (drag and drop it into Notepad, it's just text).

The used labefile was 03G-906-018-BRD.clb, I have an Audi A4 B7
That's a KWP-2000 and/or CAN engine I was told.
I'm not shure what you mean with UDS? I guess it is UDS

The [Controller Channels Map] logged: VCDS\Scaling\Logs\01-03G-906-018-AQ_WAUZZZ8E37A268057.PLB

VCDS\Scaling\example.a01:
2,2
3,1
3,2
3,3
3,4
8,2
10,1
11,2
11,3
11,4

I am not shure which of above are lost when reloaded, because I do not have access to the controller right now.

I googled that part number and the results indicate it's using CAN. I'll see if I can reproduce your issue.

Unable to reproduce here. I took the same 18.2 you're using, and this is the result of me loading prefs.a01 I saved with your exact same selections:
eYhidTo.png

Is it possible you're loading another .a01 file than the one you saved? If you want me to look into this further, I'm going to need more complete information.
Autoscan, and step by step screenshots or video of what you're doing saving and loading the preselections.

Hello,

Is there no way to dump the list of available measuring values and locations to a text file so it can be reviewed while not in the car with the ignition on? From what I can tell, there appears to be zero means to get a text list of the values available for my engine without taking dozens of screenshots and running them though OCR. It's a UDS module, CAEB engine, 06H-907-115-CAB.clb label file.

On the AdvMeasVal Tour page, it talks about using a single group for maximum sample rate. I notice value locations do start with different codes, like IDE and ENG. And there are compound locations like IDE00560-MAS04121. Is IDE and ENG two different "groups"? Or is groups a holdover term from the block days and not relevant to UDS engine modules? In which case, should I see a difference selecting only IDE locations vs selecting IDE and ENG locations?

When using Group UDS, I seem limited to 8 values. I have a HEX+CAN USB device. Would this be improved with a HEX-V2 or HEX-NET device? I see the Tour page text about the split option. I assume then the largest split size would still be 8 for my engine module? But I could now have up to 12 values selected, or can I have more with HEX-V2/HEX-NET? If the max split is 8 for my engine, and I'm having to do two groups, it would seem I should be able to run with 16 selections.

When logging, it seems the file name is not unique. The only variable is the number of values being captured. While appending is better than overwriting, it took me a while to figure out where some of my logs went (yes, found that while looking at the Logging Tour page). Is there a way to inject an index counter or date/time value or such into the computed log name? Or an enhancement request forum to post this to?

Thanks,
Scott

Sorry, another wonder about Adv Meas Values. For a UDS engine module, do the descriptions presented come from the engine module, or from Ross-Tech? Ie, if I find a description confusing, are we all in the same boat of "who knows what the Audi eng was thinking", or would it be a question to Ross-Tech about why they used the text presented?
