Tesla Auto-Pilot Fail:

NTfc8br.gif

Proof that computers always do what the programmers tell 'em to; in this case, "Stay in the painted lane markings".

I'm afraid to ask what the fluid contains that it was blowing out.

I sense a new MasterCard TV commercial coming out soon!

Pavement line painting tool: $22.77
Line spray paint: $15.78
Watching self-driving cars smash into concrete walls and posting the videos to YouTube: priceless

:D

I'm leery of robot-overlord cars but I think it looks like the Tesla did pretty well at minimizing damage to fragile humans while sacrificing itself.

I think it's just normal automotive coolant. The battery pack is temperature-controlled using a liquid loop, and the motor controller is liquid-cooled.

All that tech and it decided between the lines was the way to go. Forget about that f***ing concrete wall blocking out your line of sight....

I think camera tech surpassed the capabilities of human eyes a while back.

What technology still lacks is the ability of the gray matter behind the eyeballs to interpret the incoming data and and make appropriate decisions based thereon.

I'm not so sure about that one UWE, take another look at the video and watch closely where the Tesla hits the left side and how fast the hazard warning lights come on. No Human I know would have reacted that fast to put on the hazards?

We got a small electric Mitsubishi van at work for the "Shuttle Bug", a vehicle to carry people from the carpark to the Hospital main entrance.

"Management" were quoted as saying "It's so quiet, we had to fit a flashing light".....

 I'm waiting for some old lady to complain, after it runs her over, and "management" asking her why she didn't hear the flashing light approaching her from behind!

After seeing that video, I'm thinking that Tesla's next software update push needs to turn on the hazards whenever the autopilot is enabled!

Simple fix - playing cards in the wheel spokes, like everyone used to do up here as a kid with your bicycles. Well, except that we used baseball cards, but you probably don't have them on your side of the world.....

Yoghurt container cut into a strip, stuck on with a clothes peg and tape.

Already suggested it :D I think we run on similar wavelengths ;)

I'll have to find those spokey hubcaps though... like on an 80's LeBaron, or whatever they were on.

Does the van have a drive shaft? If so, I'm wondering how long four strategically-placed cable ties (don't cut the tails off) phased 90 degrees apart would last slapping against a cow bell hanging from the frame????? :p

hmm............ Yes, I agree - but what technology REALLY lacks is that "little trick" that carbon based life units have for making replicas of themselves so easily!! When technology learns how to that - we should start to really worry!
