I see You don't have 7n0907530Bx gw yet which will hopefully fix the canbus faults.

Why no basic settings on ABS?
Do you have info about fuel levwl sensor calibration? White VDO NEC cluster eeprom seems alot easier to calibrate than older red Micronas.

I thought about 2x 1.6 badges at one point :thumbs:

I have a 7N0 gateway... but it's on the floor :-) I have no radio yet - the RCD330+ is still coming.

I did the ABS later, and the battery is out of it again now - I have to buy it one - I had stolen the battery from the Bluran, but I needed that for work today.

I have a fault with the fuel sender - Not sure if I damaged a wire yet - still to investigate. I had planned to adapt the reserve level yesterday... but then saw the fault and thought I'd rather drive it :-) I hope it isn't the sender, because I have to partially unmount the tank to get it out :cry:

I fixed the fuel level sender.....

... turns out some dumbass fitted the wrong sender - it was the 2 wire one, not the 3 - I've got 4 in total, and picked the wrong one :facepalm:

Of course I put 20L of fuel in BEFORE I decided to do it

I got a battery for it today... but I think I used the bolts for my septic aeration pump... better find some more tomorrow!

My original second fuel sender had 3 pins, though 3rd not connected. Had to connect it for white cluster.

So I'm guessing You're using somesort of aftermarket sensor?

I got the pump out through the top, changed the sender module over to a 3 wire sender, and soldered the wire to the connection on the top. It's a factory sender - they all are, but from all sorted of different models.

The pump just fits out through the slightly modified original access hole.

The 3 pins produce opposing resistances to the centre, I guess it has to see both? The Ausi A3 sender is the 2 wire one, but the Golf cluster wanted 3 wire signals. Not sure when it changed ovet, year wise. Touran had a 3 wire sender originally too. All red clusters.

Argh...

The gateway I got was wrong, so the right one is being sent to me. Of course I tried the wrong one to see what it was, but it was a 6 byte? one!

Anyway - I thought I'd clear the ESP "system function test activated" code... but I couldn't! The stupid gateway had made the ABS flag an "incorrect module installed" code... which I didn't clear because I didn't know they were there!

But I also had:

So I have the original "01486 - System Function Test Activated" - makes sense.

and I have the "01487 - System Function Test" because I couldn't complete the test.

But the G200 and G202 - are they because the paddock I'm doing it in isn't flat and has a few sharp humps and hollows? I had to start the test a few times, becasue I have to miss the trees etc too.

It's the wedding venue next door... but I can't rough it up too much, because the owners (and very good friends of mine) are getting married there this weekend!

To start the test, I applied firm brake pressure. The ABS light was on, and the traction control light comes on with the brake pressure. Then on the failed attempts, the traction light would turn off, and the ABS light remained on. After a couple of tries, both lights were on to show the test started, but the ABS light turned off at the end, and left the traction light on - I think that was the run that triggered the G200 and G202 codes?

Does anyone think I just need to find a flatter spot, or have I really got an issue? My wheelbase is 100mm longer than the golf the drivetrain is from, but I wouldn't think it was enough to throw off it's plausability calculations???

P.S. The R32ran is currently showing an average speed of 14km/h and 19.4L/100kms! (8.7MPH and a bit over 12 US MPG, or 14.5 UK MPG) I hope the whole lot of them improve when I start driving "normally"

P.P.S. My steering rack is the Touran one, not a 4motion one - does that make any difference? Is 44 Steering assist, I can only set the DSR (driver steering recommendation) to 0 which is "ON - MK60-AT" or 1 which is "OFF - MK70 ASR", if I choose 2 which 's "ON - MK60 AWD" the save button is greyed out, and the stored value stays at the previous value.

Longitudinal acceleration sensor - G251: Should I be expecting a +ve value when accelerating, and -ve when braking?

What about transverse acceration? Should positive be left or right?

I have flipped the G419, because some genius at VW decided the sensor should be basically the same shape, but mounted up the other way for 4 motion cars!

NOW... I currently have +ve for acceleration, and -ve for right turn. I suspect I should be aiming for -ve for left turns though?

anyone know for sure?

Thanks Uwe, I'm going to check what my other Touran reads, but it's ESP FRONT MK60-AT. I'd ASSUME they use the same direction values..... but VW aren't like that!

I've been searching like crazy to find an image of an installed G419 in a MK5 R32, but no luck so far. Diagrams appear to have it mounted the same way I have it mounted now, which is the same as the 8J TT, for which the manual shows the direction, but other models sometimes have them other way - just as the Q7 and A4 - obviously different platforms though!

I thought I had an image of it installed in the A3 donor, but I don't...

Yesterday I drove (illegally!) to a large carpark to attempt the System Function test. the whole way there, the traction control would cut power on corners!

On the way home, having failed to perform the test, the traction control light came on solid, and it stopped cutting power on corners! I then had the G251 Lateral Acceleration sensor - implausible signal.

I turned the sensor, to get positve readings on acceleration, and it doesn't cut the power after clearing the codes. I haven't returned to the carpark yet either!

My 2WD Touran has a negative value on left turns, so perhaps that is correct!

I have a friend nearby with an R32 Golf, but it's a 2009, so I suspect it maybe MK60EC1??? without the external sensor :-( I'll check though.

I believe all 4motion PQ35s have the G251, and a few 2WD's do, that have hill start assist or some other unusual features.

I just need to get the orientation correct, before I go driving over the countryside in a car that hasn't been road legal for a year :thumbs:

Especially, because the carpark I used is around the Community Police Constables building :-)
