dhpress: hmm........ I had read somewhere that following Trump's elevation to POTUS that America had adopted neo-liberal values (by which I mean - minimal Government intervention) for everything in the country! Clearly I've been mis-informed: our RoW model cars down here in the very deep south don't have this form of nanny-ware - which is why we can do this:

KZVL9yZ.jpg

Also, if I can add to Uwe's response (remember my penchant for wanting to steal his thunder), my RoW model mk7 has an interesting entry in the long-coding-helper-screen for Byte 6 of the Engine module (@ address hex01)

As I have said above and notwithstanding Bit 2, we don't have speed limit protection down-under (where women glow and men chunder) - this is confirmed by the setting in the screen-shot. So, I have never had a need to play with these settings.

As a comparison, I've pulled the following details from a 2017 Golf Variant, 1.8T CXBB that Jef posted on the unbroken-car reference thread HERE - which I assume is an NAR model.

Code:
Address 01: Engine (J623-CXBB) Labels:. 06K-907-425-V1.clb
   Part No SW: 8V0 906 264 L HW: 06K 907 425 B
   Component: 1.8l R4 TFSI H13 0002
   Revision: --H13---
   Coding: 311D00322466002F1000
   Shop #: WSC 00066 790 00064
   ASAM Dataset: EV_ECM18TFS0208V0906264L 001003
   ROD: EV_ECM18TFS0208V0906264L.rod
   VCID: C5CD524244D03163B4-8090

No fault code found.
Readiness: 1010 0101

If I parse the coding for this module through my handy-dandy code-string to hex/binary converter, I get the following:
Code:
Byte	Hex	Binary
0	31	00110001
1	1D	00011101
2	00	00000000
3	32	00110010
4	24	00100100
5	66	01100110
6	00	00000000
7	2F	00101111
8	10	00010000
9	00	00000000

Now-while I acknowledge that my RoW Golf mk7 has a different engine module, notice the hex/binary value for Byte 6 on Jef's NAR Golf Variant.

I assume that the software switches for speed limiters that are available on (some/most?) RoW cars are embedded in module firmware in (most/all?) NAR cars - thereby making them less accessible to Americans.

IMHO, it's an interesting comparison of how different countries manage this matter - I think!

I have absolutely no doubt that American drivers are as competent as their counterparts in RoW countries - but could it be that the simple act of you guys driving on the "wrong" side of the road makes your NAR cars inherently more dangerous at high speed? Only joking - it's a rhetorical question :D

Don

need the security code, the old std doesn't work....

^^ if your car has a BCM with a non-zero code-string, try THIS and don't forget to do the "in-car" procedure!

Don

PS: if your BCM does have the newer channel database, the pertinent adaptation channel is ENG10577-ENG116587-Außenlicht_Blinker-Komfortblinken Blinkzyklen

I was able to fix the blinks and get them to a max of 5, I was hoping for the other hack, the drl/blinker alternating when the emergency flasher are on. Thx

^^^not surprisingly, the tweak is done on the Instrument module @ address hex17 - go to the long coding helper screen and navigate to Byte 1. You should see a descriptor on Bit 0 referring to "Staging" in the "yellow" screen, or "Needle sweep" in the normal screen. Set this software switch

Have you tried the [SRI Reset] function on this car?
