Been working on a Matrix LED retrofit. I'm at a pretty decent point, the hardest part was getting the modules flashed but VCP was finally able to do that eventually.

I think I'm pretty much to the point of getting the Matrix LED's calibrated so that the high beams will begin to work. Here's my auto scan of the vehicle.

Anyone know the possibility of how to put in calibration parameters? I was trying the basic headlamp settings in the in Central Electronics but that just says "not running" and I never receive any form of prompts. Looking at Elsa, it seems like that should be kind of the direction you need to go.

There was also these in A5, but any thing i clicked here related to Matrix says "Error: Service not supported in active session"

Then I also clicked start calibration mode and now my lane assist and stuff is all faulting. I saw another thread on here where someone had to go to the dealership to get that reset. Wasn't sure if it was the full calibration or not.

I'm also not sure on the error about the Image processing control module. I read a thread about that and someone said that it eventually just went away, but I'm not seeing that.

Anyways this is where I stand. The low beams, DRLS, and sweeping turns all work correctly. The coding that I have currently is a mix between what my factory coding is and from an actual B9 with Matrix lights.

Been working on a Matrix LED retrofit. I'm at a pretty decent point, the hardest part was getting the modules flashed but VCP was finally able to do that eventually.

These LED power modules are... a downgrade from factory? Your factory part was 7PP 941 572 AB which GIS shows labeled with "LED LEIMO MAX". Your installed modules are 7PP 941 571 BB which GIS shows labeled with "LED LEIMO MIN + LIN".

I think your BCM is stock, I can't quite line up the part number with PL24 but it may have been superseded. You have no address 55 headlight range control or 4B multifunction module to take care of the headlight magic, so this has to be coming from the BCM, and I'm not even sure you can have BCM-driven Matrix LEDs.

What exactly did you replace? What retrofit guide are you working from? I haven't worked directly with a true Matrix LED setup before, but this looks very much like the more basic MLBevo LED AFS setup available in NAR.

Hey thanks for the response. I'm pretty new to this entire retrofit. It's actually only been done by one person at this point that I know of. He had some connections with some people with Audi so I think he was able to get this going more or less. He mentioned that he had the PR updated for his VIN of his vehicle and that allowed him to just use ODIS since that recognized his car having Matrix from the factory. I of course don't have that luxury so we need to just move forward with what I have. If we can make a breakthrough and get this figured out for the entire community that would be awesome.

So excuse me for not being really intelligent on all of the things related to this process, but let me speak with the knowledge I have. My car has OEM LED's with the normal like Auto High Beam headlight assist piece so it was all originally coded for that. With the Matrix LED, the same LED control module is used as mentioned before. The power modules are what are different. So to give some history, I originally had the modules purchased OEM. These modules come unflashed. I was having a hard time getting them flashed, but I'm working with Alex at Europrice on this project and he was actually able to get them flashed. We also got a pair of these power modules from Europe that came, flashed from a Matrix vehicle. If I swap those out with the ones that are currently in the vehicle, I get the same results. So these were flashed with a provided Matrix profile via VCP on my one set, and OEM from the other.

The coding that I've performed came directly from a Matrix equipped vehicle. I only made adjustments so I had a lot of the other items work on the car (my hatch motor, my cameras, parking sensors, etc.). I have all of the same errors that I did with the other setup, just less in regards to the rest of the items that I just mentioned. I'm not thinking it as easy as you may be mentioning. I believe the B9 has all of the equipment available for doing the Matrix setup, but there is something not coded properly, nor calibrated. Maybe my BCM is missing something and maybe I should look into VCP for some more of that information, but honestly I'm in a little over my head when talking about all of these items but I'm enjoying learning what I can.

You're right on the address 55. I'll have to see if I can find a scan of my car prior to putting these in and seeing if that address showed up at all. In the mean time any other random ideas you may have would be great.

Hi there,

I think you have missed quite a bit of stuff looking at the errors on your BCM1.... For starters, for Matrix lights there is a 2 wire bus directly from the A5 camera to J519 (I think this is what this error is: 66707 - Image processing control module U1079 00 [009] - No communication). Also, you need to check your wiring because with steel springs you need both a FRONT and REAR level sensor (this error: [EFP control module: implausible message in signal FA_height-value_FL_00]_ and once installed, this needs to be coded in BCM2.. Air suspension on the other hand requires four level sensors, one on each wheel axle. With all those errors in your VCDS module dump I reckon the controller will refuse to update it's basic settings.. I have been trying to do this retrofit on a Q7 4M and that hardest thing for me is trying to find a Q7 with steel springs and matrix lights to copy the coding from. Every set of coding I have is for air-suspension with with Matrix lights. The difference between steel springs and air-suspension with the Matrix headlights is that there is an additional module for the air suspension that is responsible also for the level sensors and it sends the height information to J519 (BCM1) which in turn sends the information to the headlight controllers... With steel springs, BCM2 sends the height information to BCM1.

With calibration for Matrix, there are two places that need calibrating. One, A5 camera which uses a calibration board. Then J519 needs calibrating for matrix headlights. The information is in the factory repair manual for your car. With Matrix, there is a special tool that is used and the values are entered into ODIS. I don't think VCDS asks for those values but I could be wrong.

So my recommendation is to get rid of those errors on your J519 before trying to update the basic settings and then go to erwin.audi.com and purchase an hour access and download the factory repair manuals for your car and see what they say about calibrating Matrix headlights..

For starters, for Matrix lights there is a 2 wire bus directly from the A5 camera to J519 (I think this is what this error is: 66707 - Image processing control module U1079 00 [009] - No communication). Also, you need to check your wiring because with steel springs you need both a FRONT and REAR level sensor (this error: [EFP control module: implausible message in signal FA_height-value_FL_00]_ and once installed, this needs to be coded in BCM2.. Air suspension on the other hand requires four level sensors, one on each wheel axle. With all those errors in your VCDS module dump I reckon the controller will refuse to update it's basic settings.. I have been trying to do this retrofit on a Q7 4M and that hardest thing for me is trying to find a Q7 with steel springs and matrix lights to copy the coding from. Every set of coding I have is for air-suspension with with Matrix lights. The difference between steel springs and air-suspension with the Matrix headlights is that there is an additional module for the air suspension that is responsible also for the level sensors and it sends the height information to J519 (BCM1) which in turn sends the information to the headlight controllers... With steel springs, BCM2 sends the height information to BCM1.

With calibration for Matrix, there are two places that need calibrating. One, A5 camera which uses a calibration board. Then J519 needs calibrating for matrix headlights. The information is in the factory repair manual for your car. With Matrix, there is a special tool that is used and the values are entered into ODIS. I don't think VCDS asks for those values but I could be wrong.

So my recommendation is to get rid of those errors on your J519 before trying to update the basic settings and then go to erwin.audi.com and purchase an hour access and download the factory repair manuals for your car and see what they say about calibrating Matrix headlights..

So I have been busy with other things these days and this retrofit went by the wayside. I just wanted to say that I appreciate your response and you were pretty spot on a lot of things.

First of all, the camera didn't have my extra two wires I needed. I ran wires and tapped into my BCM, but I don't have the ends yet to add those to the plug, they are arriving Saturday. I tried to just jam the wires in there to see if they would make contact, but I was unable to get a signal still so I'll have to wait, but that definitely was the case there. Just an FYI, the wiring diagram is completely incorrect on coloring for the wires used for this but I just looked at the terminals on the headlights and was able to find the appropriate wires going to the BCM.

Regarding the camera calibration, I figured this out as well. It was saying I had an implausible signal due to disabling the adaptive suspension in the Chassis Control module. I have an AirLift Performance setup on my allroad so I disabled this to not get the error on the screen. Once I added I flipped it back on, the suspension errors came back, but the camera calibrating procedure worked like a charm. The adaptive suspension does have 4 level sensors, which I thought was only a magride or factory air ride thing, but it appears they do it now on the adaptive as well. I'm going to try to do some looking on that A5's coding to see if there is another setting that could possibly still allow me to disable that, while keeping the level sensors functional.

Once this is all said and done, I'll be attempting the basic settings for the headlights hopefully early next week. Currently when I try to do it I get an error saying the camera could not be started which makes sense if I didn't have the CAN signal wired in. The only thing that confuses me is stepping through it in ODIS it does say "Vehicle has no EFP (active level control system)" and later on says "int_efp_auto=-1" which I would think it still has the sensors for it, but maybe the fact that I don't have something that actually adjusts the level of the vehicle (factory air) that it's just letting me know. I did just plug in my stock suspension just to see if it would make that go away, but it still gave me the same results outside of the fact that my suspension errors went away.

Hopefully should have this all working by next week as long as that EFP issue doesn't grow into something bigger. Again thanks for the assistance and heads up! Hopefully you've been able to get your Matrix retrofit on the Q7 going.

no probs... last thing is you will need to o is update the dataset in your bcm1 module or else it won't be able to communicate with the headlight controllers... 2 methods... buys a sexond hand bcm1 thst came from a car with matrix headlights or get VCP which can "update" datasets... datasets is how cars can share modules between models....(ie q7 4m all a4 8w share same bcm1/j519 but dataset determines what car and features bcm1 supports) the dataset update shows up when you code everything correctly and you get a dataset error in J519... re datasets, different versions exist for q7 4m depending on whether you have, matrix headlights, heated seats, vented seats, ambient lighting etc... so just changing long coding and adaption channels for modules no longer guarantees a retrofit will work!

you will see the dataset and version in vcds "advancedID"... compare to cars with matrix lights and other features and you will see it's different.

Just wanted to give a big shout out to everyone who helped in this thread. Especially spyderboyant. He definitely pinpointed a few things that led me back to my Chassis Control setting I changed, but in regards to the retrofit, all my other coding was correct. They are fully installed and working great! Hopefully now we'll start seeing more Matrix retrofits in the states.
