N290 mystery on golf mk5

Hello,can anyone shed more light on where the N290 is fitted on this Golf5,it is nowhere in the workshop manual,SSP334 about fuel on FSi engines,what im getting in the FINE BOOKS are N276 mounted HPFP,G410 on low pressure fuel rail,G247 on high pressure fuel rail and even SSP322 on AXW which is the ancestor of BLX,BLR,BVY etc does not have it!,problem started after car was taken for the rear quarter paint job,the guys there have changed three different J538 but still no luck, i connected fuel pressure tester on low pressure side and after cycling ignition on/off 3 times the pressure builds to around 5 bar,then engine is able to start and idle but after a few minutes the fuel pressure recedes until engine stalls,i have checked the fuel holding pressure and after 10 minutes it is within specs,now Iam left wondering if ECU is giving VCDS incorrect info or if N290 FUEL METERING VALVE means something else on this car

It is entirely possible that there is no "N290" in this car. VAG started re-using fault code texts that had DIN identifiers in them for components with different DIN identifiers. A few years ago, they removed all the DIN identifiers from their fault code texts, but we have not done that, because most of the time, they are still correct.

I think it's actually N276... but there is no label file for your ecu.

N276 is on the HPFP, black 2 terminal connector.

It may have a damaged wire.

Change HPP if wiring from ECU consumer feeds + grounds or to pump N276 (n290) valve or ecu could also be damaged maybe water ingress.
Check fuses and for corrosion.

I read an earlier SSP that explained the n290 to be mounted at the shock absorber tower on fuel rail,maybe on an earlier model Golf

Thanks,I was of the same opinion but was unsure,will have a look on it when it comes back on Wednesday and post results,I've been wondering why the ecu doesn't have the label file,I thought it was changed but saw that immobilizer is working so my mind is a bit off it

Thanks Jack for the insight,ECU's location makes it a candidate for water entry,what ties my hands is that the workshop manual for this particular model (Row) lacks WD,voltage parameters,n276 resistance,been trying how to convert the HTML only version offered by erWin to PDFs,but no luck still

You might want to pay the $35 for a day's subscription & download everything pertinent to your VIN. Sure helped me much better than the Bentley's & Chiltons, at 1/4 the price. I need paper & books when wrenching. I just use the laptop for diagnostics & the forum.
I am actually picking all of the files for my Jetta out & going to print them & punch for 3 ring binders.

The N276 on the HPFP in my garage came off a running 2006 BVY 2.0 FSI.

It measures 1.8 Ohms. It's an aftermarket pump, but it has had number machined off, so was quite possibly made by and OEM.

It worked perfectly, other than some dumbass fitted it without putting a cam follower in (at all!), so the pin is worn.

for some reason that I don't understand, PDFs by VIN are easily downloadable on erWin Nar site,but on Row no guided search,only HTML versions,I haven't yet figured a way to go round this problem so am hesitant because I lost a one hours subscription sometimes back while trying to hit the right buttons

Yes it was 20C -ish.

Although I think it's a solenoid coil, so shouldn't change much.

hello, i got 1.5 ohms at room temperature today,and roughly 8 volts across the component connector with ignition on,engine off,next step is to check wiring to ecu and signal to j538

Finally got the problem....car showed up today and while scanning, I got even more codes( will post tomorrow) some not even related to hpfp, that got me puzzled While chasing the n276 wiring to ecu and wiring from onboard power supply I was surprised to find a mouse had made the top of can gateway its new abode and was chewing wires indiscriminately ,so I traced all the wires that had been damaged and VOILA...the pesky check light went off and motor ran like new....but I made sure I evicted the new immigrant by turning ac blower full speed and temp to max hot,closed all the windows and let engine run for a full 2hrs by which time the rodent &descendants lay unconscious under the seats!.....thanks to all especially to Jack@european parts,FOD is real only the form may be different!
