Hello,
I welcome any and all advice on my list of issues.
History:
Car has had all recalls & service campaigns.
Previous owner:
Left the country for 5 months (Was supposed to be 2 months). Battery was dead. Jumped the car for 2 minutes, then drove to work. Had to get jumped again (Clamp, start, unclamp) & then could not get it out ofPark. Tow truck, blah blah...
Car is now mine for the grand total of $70 for a tow.
Well, it's pretty messed up.
It runs just fine. A/C, radio, lights, blinkers & all things operate fine. But will not come up as functioning.
I have checked all fuses, relays (Energized & measured with miliohm meter), cycled all plugs that I can find. I have cleaned all grounds in the engine compartment & the ones on the steering column & behind left & right kick panels.

Starting is intermittent.
Will not shift out of Park.
Lights on:
Steering, engine, brake pedal, car doing burnout (Brake & seat belt on manually) MUST disconnect battery to remove key.

Please ignore the "Dimmer" issue, as the dash is 1/2 apart & the console is in the trunk.

Park solenoid tests good. No sicnal coming to it.

CAN signals at shifter are 2.96 & 2.84 (If I remember right.

Well, I scanned the car, then cleared the codes, to declutter stored issues from my fiddling. Here's a fresh scan.

I am mechanically & electrically inclined (Foreman of electrics at an automation company, ham radio operator for decades, electrician for 15 years, marine electronics specialist.

01-Engine: Just knows there are some issues with the trans.

02-Trans: Have you got wiring diagrams for it?

03- ABS: It might need a steering angle sensor (it's behind the steering wheel), but I'd put all the other stuff back together before I worried about this.

42 & 52 Front Doors: Windows just need to be synched using the up/down switches.

I have the Bentley's manual & a Haynes (Early desperation). I am still getting used to reading & interperting the schematics (Even though I do it for a living). If I could get an Eagle file, I could understand it better).
I do have an all purpose CAN sniffer (Commercial units) if needed.
I am looking at this as a power issue, until, it pares down to the shifter.

Are those schematic files any different than in the Bentley's manual?
Even if they are the same, could I get the schematics by VIN, so as to not have to have the others there (Would be worth the 1 day in a heart beat).
Also, is there a place to find the pinouts of the connectors, visually?

Change G85 & F319 and readapt plus correct over charge condition or regulate the stupid batter charger because voltage this high will cause protections to shut stuff off and make things FUBAR.

So, a new steering angle sensor & the 319 refers to the park lock switch. Is that a replacable item in the shifter, or am I in for a new shifter?
Also, no battery charger has been connected to the vehicle. Just a small battery tender, after disconnecting the battery.
I really have no idea how the radio got 16V.
Also, the steering column control module seems to be connected to all of these devices(Steering angle sensor, shift lock, cylinder lock & gear selector, right?
I will hook up again & try to see if I can check it.
Also, a couple network issues, could be fixed with other errors.

I will run some ore tests this afternoon.
Friday, I will be picking up a column & shifter out of another 08 Wolfsburg. Yes, used, through LKQ. $100 for the pair.
This way, I have parts & can do some swapping.
I still feel that this is an overload issue, due to low voltage & jump starting. Just a hunch, but I will follow the advice given.
Ate there any specific tests to perform, that might help with diagnosis?
To me, it just seems there are too many codes to shotgun it with parts, but I will have them to do so, if needed.
In my field of work, (Flying people internationally for automation), we must find the fault & then find a way to prevent it. That makes me just want to dive deeper into the electrical system.

Respectfully, in post #3 , I stated that I have the Bentley's manual & should I download the schematics from Erwin as in, would they be better?
I have been through Jack's page a few times. I did not see information to my above question, therefore I asked.
If I can just punch in my VIN & get better schematics than the Bentley's I surely will in a heartbeat.

OK before posting I looked deeper & yes, I can get better from Erwin.
I will hit them up at lunchtime. I saw mention of "Print to .PDF, does that mean, that I cannot actually download the content but have to "Print" it to .PDF then recall it from there?

I have paper. I now see that it wad last edited in 2009. Obviously, I'll download everything from Erwin.
Hope I can get it all done during my lunch break. Otherwise, I'll finish it up after work.
Now, I understand the discrepancies from my car to the schematics & parts in the paper book.

So, I looked the car up & they do not even list a 1K4 car. Only the 1K2 Jetta 05-10.

OK, I have the shifter assembly & steering column coming from a similar build date Wolfsburg Jetta.
I will have them for testing.
Now, being new to all of this, could someone assist me with the procedure to check this?
1 Fault Found:
00457 - Control Module for Network (J519)
013 - Check DTC Memory

I just did the autoscan. I am hoping to learn to access as many modules as I can to check for DTCs & clear them.

That's just those modules (08-HVAC and 46-Central Conv) advising you that they are aware there's a fault in J519 (the CECM at address 09) because they can't function as intended with the fault condition in J519. Once you fix the Dimmer Switch fault, you should be able to clear these.

Well, I have everything downloaded & saved. Dang..... There's a lot of info in there. 1099 pages of wiring, alone.
I'll be burning up the toner cartriges in the morning.
I'll get back to diagnosis Saturday morning. I'll surely report back.
