Amarok uneven idling

This vehicle has history, Was taken to VW for poor power. VW diagnosed new high pressure pump, new common rail and 4 x injectors. Client bought the items at Bosch (cheaper) and VW fitted it. After the fitment the idling was uneven and before the fitment the idling was fine. The fuel pressure is jumping up and down quite a bit. VW states the high pressure pump needs to be replaced and is noisy. I compared with stetoscope between 2 Amaroks and the sound was similar. This looks like the fuel pressure regulating valve N276 on the fuel rail. I will test it tomorow morning.
Client also told me during the installation the high pressure pump timing locking mechanism broke of one piece. VW reckons the pump timing is correct. I am not sure but will double check the timing (maybe it could influence the idling?).

Yes Bosch ECD17CP20 controllers factor the stroke of the pump & is of particular importance for idle balance unlike the EDC17CP14 platforms in the USA "that really doesn't give a shit" & maybe for other reasons connected to stupid choices doing what ever it wants.

Just like VW to take what it wants..........

Timing was incorrect and we reset it with the help off the special tools. Problem stayed. Now and again the idling will be uneven with the fuel pressure fluctuating.
Since the client took the vehicle to VW for no power, we swopped the old fuel regulator valve and it made no difference.
Will investigate further but I think the history of the vehicle explained to me is not true.

Checked the fuel supply pressure from fuel tank to high pressure pump. Pressure gauge needle jumps continuously between 2.8 & 4 bar.
Could the fluctuating needle be from the high pressure pump? Fuel pressure according to specs is equal and greater than 3.5bar.

When we dropped the fuel tank there was very fine metal chavings in the tank. The pick up screen of the fuel pump also dirty (muddy).
I think my client will have to redo the whole excercise over again (hp pump, common rail and injectors).

Yup.........

This is why I think post filter and screens after an HPP are a ( no brainier for strainer ) for the dude keeping his car forever & not to mention the GHG factor reduction from the engine running far better.

Fuel lubricants have importance too...........
