I have searched the forum and could not find any distance impulse corrections for a 2002 A4 B6. When in 17, instruments it doesn't give the option, or maybe I not doing something correct. Can anybody help me here?

If it's the cluster I think it is, there are only three choices:

C01,??xxx: Options
C02,+00 = 1st Distance Impulse Number (Standard - Europe/USA/Rest of World)
C03,+01 = All-Wheel-Drive/Quattro (smaller Fuel Tank Volume)
C04,+02 = Seatbelt Warning (North American Region OLD - < CW 44/2004)
C05,+04 = 3rd Distance Impulse Number (Rental Cars)
C06,+08 = 2nd Distance Impulse Number (Australia)

What are you hoping to achieve by changing the distance impulse correction value?

Thanks Uwe,

That is what I found, My speedo is off by 5 mph, it states 75 and actual is 70, and I was looking to correct this. So as I see it there is no correction to be had, correct?

My speedo is off by 5 mph, it states 75 and actual is 70, and I was looking to correct this.
5mph in 70mph is just over 7% - as all speedos are required to never under-read but must not over-read by more than 10% this is within the expected "normal" range.

I understand that is correct, I just find it annoying as my wife is always watching the speedo and telling me to slow down. Just thought I could adjust the impulse number to correct. Was worth a try. Thanks all for your assistance, much appreciated.

Well, you could try coding it your cluster to 04400 or 08400 to see what effect that has and report back, because I really don't know why taxis or cars sold in 'straya would be different.

-Uwe-

PS: FWIW, we had a 2002 A4 for a while and the speedo on that car was dead on (within 1 mph). It was a 3.0L petrol V6 with MT6 transmission and 17" sport wheels. What size are your tires?

My Audi is a 1.8T with a 5 speed, running 17 also with 235 45 17 tires. The door placard for tire pressure has these listed.

I will have to try the different settings next weekend and report back the results.

I've owned 3 B6s (2 x 4.2 V8 S4 + 1 x 1.9TDi 130 Sport) and 1 B7 (4.2 V8 RS4) and they all over-read (according to my GPS) by between 5% and 7% - all were MT6 and fitted with OE wheels & tyres.

He Uwe,

I was able to try the 04400 and the 08400. Funny thing the instrument cluster would not take the codes. Maybe it is because I do not have the pin for the IMMO.

I had 205 55 16 on the car before and the speedo was off over 11 MPH. When I changed to the 235 45 17 it dropped to the 5 mph over. As the tire rolling circumference is different it helped but not totally resolved. Guess I will have to live with it, or should I say my wife complaining I am going too fast.

I do not think the Immo PIN would have any influence whether it will accept a coding.

Get an app for your phone that shows the true speed via GPS and mount it on the dash where she can see it? :D

Oh OK, So this would be like the fake break peddle and steering wheel I have on her side of the car, It would add a instrument cluster so she thinks she is in control. LOL

Make sure it's an app that you can program to "correct" the speed... you could make it read 20% low, and she might start telling you to go faster!

Where can I find that app, it would save my ears and keep both of us happy. Good suggestion but probably not feasible. Or maybe I could put a set of blinders on her so she cannot see the speedometer?

Solved.

I was refreshing my instrument cluster LED Lights and dials. I found that the previous oner had removed the check engin LED. When I put the cluster back togeather again and did a needle sweep the speedometer dial was not in the correct position. I adjusted the speedometer needle to be the correct position (60 MPH on the sweep) and low and behold the speedometer is now bang on. I did not realize that the instrument cluster had been removed before.

Lesson learned. Needle sweep was the game changer.:)
