OK. So I changed my NAV to what you had except for the fact I have the standard audio and a Golf. Saved it. Reset the radio. When back to 77 TELE and tried to edit just one BIT - changing sort from first name to last name and tried to SAVE it. It did not work :-(

Same 7F error message.

Well, I don't think you discovered a VCDS bug because I can re-code to factory settings and code my 56 and 77 modules to your exact coding configs without an issue.

I am leaning to a defective 9w7 as I bought it used.

They say it is fine and want me to go to a VW dealer to program but I thought we could do the same with the MicroCAN. They will want $90 for the service visit. Another used 9w7 is $50 shipped. Not sure what to do....

Been disappointing trying to get this RNS510 installed.

Yeah, it sounds like a flaky 77 module. I'd be willing to plug it into my Tiggy and try coding if you want to mail it to me (Western PA) but make sure you used more than one PC, coded with the engine running to rule out low voltage, copied my exact WSC details (25807/444/28888) and similar first.

We did try two different laptops (mine is WIN10, wifes is WIN7), and I can long code the NAV and Gateway no problem. Battery in the car is 2 months old and not an issue. We also changed the WSC to one with 444 in it as well (was 12345 123 12345) and neither of those two worked. It just won't take anything we try. The question is would the VW dealer be able to do something with the module that we can't with the MicroCAN...

As for sending it to you, I appreciate the offer but if you cannot do anything either, then I am still left sending it back to the person I bought it from. Best I send it back to him and buy another one for $50...

UPDATE:

So, I was in Dayton this weekend and the last salvage yard I called said they had a trashed 2013 Jetta. Went out and found it did have one of the 510 radios, as there was a BT module under the seat.

Long story short, for $50 got the "K" version of the module, the foam housing and the connectors. When I got home Sunday night, I plugged it in and it worked immediately, so the last module must have been bad or somehow locked (was able to send it back for a refund minus shipping).

Needless to say, it was nice having hands free calling today and ability to stream music.

Now I just need to figure out why the VW OEM RGB backup camera does not work...

Thanks to all who helped me try and get the BT working.

Have you enabled back up cam in can gateway? To me the error looks like that.

What kind of camera you have? Do you have highline camera with higher resolution and turning guidelines? Or the low res version with fixed guidelines?

Low res version does not have separate control module which would explain the error, in this case, remove the back up cam from gateway installation list. If you do have highline camera then radio coding is incorrect and something wrong with the camera control module or wiring to it.

Yes, I did enable the camera in the NAV module Byte 3, Bit 6 - Backup Camera Low (without control Module) installed (checked) but not in the Gateway module (I did not check the box saying I had one). My last scan a few posts ago shows no such module in the list - so that should be the proof, right? (I can go in and double check later tonight).

What I bought and installed was a VW OEM camera, part number 3WO 807 210B, from a seller on eBay that was an actual RGB camera, not a "RCA video camera" running through a converter:

I installed it BEFORE I did the RNS510 conversion, and it worked perfectly with my RNS315 after setting that same module/byte/bit (well, except for the small screen view which prompted me to go to the 510). It required me to cut a small square in the bottom of the overhang by the license plate.

It did not have guide lines that turned with the wheel (unfortunately), just fixed ones.

Here are some new scans. I believe the faults seen in my previous post were caused when I was trying to get the BT module to work - I had pulled the radio but did not plug in the rear camera. After doing an AUTO SCAN today, all those errors went away. I also checked the current equipment list and that showed no backup camera (6C) checked. Both scans are attached.

I just don't understand why it worked with the 315 but not with the 510. Just for fun, I found my old backup camera that does use a converter box to convert a 'regular' video image to RGB. Guess what - it worked. I guess I could remount it (on the license plate) but since I cut the bumper to get the 'real' RGB OEM VW camera installed, I would really like to get it working. Looks pretty stupid to have two cameras one above the other :-(

So I looked at the links, plus did some searches on RNS315 and RNS510 camera connector pinouts. There is a difference between some diagrams I found, but I don't know which is right. So I pulled my radio and took a picture of it, then put all the info in a spreadsheet:



What stands out is pin 24 when comparing the RNS315/RNS510 online info vs the picture on my radio and on the MY_GTI website. If indeed pin 24 was wired for being the SYNC RED but on my radio pin 24 is ground, that would cause a problem for sure. BUT, if that is the case, what pins need to be swapped? There are only 5 pins in the OEM VW cable from the camera to this connector -Pins 12,13, 24, 25, 26. Shielding goes to PIN 24.

Now, in my VIDEO to RGB converter camera setup, I have 6 wires going to the radio connector and that camera WORKS FINE. Pins 11,12,13, 24, 25, 26 are used. Unfortunately, I have no diagram for what each line is but the 'extra' pin 11 also goes to the shield.

Given that, I am going to take apart another connector to get one of the pin contacts, and use it to add a pin 11/shield to the OEM cable to see if that will fix the issue. If you have any thoughts about pin 24, LMK. Thanks.

UPDATE: Adding that ground wire did not work :-( Something else is wrong - must be a wire configuration issue, maybe that pin 24. I have contacted the person I bought it from to see if they know a reason why it works on a 315 but not the 510...

Installing RNS-510 in 2012 EOS that had a RNS-315 FINAL POST

So, everything is now working!

Working with the person who sold me the OEM backup camera, we found out the issue was a bad cable even though it worked with the RNS315. Any way, the RNS510 is working great - I can easily see the screen, get navigation, use the BT phone and stream stereo music and see all the stuff in the DIC. Updated the firmware to the latest and maps to V10. It is still sometimes slow starting up (just can't figure out under what conditions) but it is not useless as some had said...

Life is finally good :--)
