hi,

please excuse me if this has been discussed; i feel like surely it has at some point but i personally can not find any reference.

my backpack was stolen; car keys and address inside. i am now worried the thief can come to my house, and use my key to drive my car away.

i have a spare key at home.

the following two questions assume the frequency of the FOB/remote control are separate to the immobiliser frequency which is read by the ignition:
1. is it possible for me to change the FOB/remote frequency of my spare key/car so that the thief cannot unlock my car?
2. is it possible for me to change the immobiliser frequency so the thief can not start my car?

once i have purchased a replacement FOB/remote control and had the physical key cut to match my spare key i assume i follow these instructions to match it to the car:
remote:

immoboliser (one of):

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_III_Key_Matching_(Separate)
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_III_Immobilizer_Swapping_(Kessy)

i acknowledge my request to change the remote and immoboliser frequencies does not prevent the thief using my key to physically open my car; but at least he can't drive the car away.

car details:

thank you,
louie

The frequency has to do with the region you live in. NAR has 315MHz and ROW has 433MHz. I don't think you can change it without hardware swaps.
But I guess you're talking about the transponder codes etc. Well..

I think a car locksmith can remove the old keys from your immobilser and I suppose VCDS could remove the remotes from the central locking.
Adding new keys to the immobiliser of a MQB car or late PQ35 is not something that VCDS can do.
Your best guess would be the dealer (2 new keys + locks and a new 'identity' for the car), or find someone that has advanced immo tools. And a locksmith for your house.

claim from insuirrance company

you need to:
1) delete all remotes
2) delete all KEYS in Immo
3) exchange door lock and ignition lock

hi all
thanks for you replies so far!
i am happy to forego the the safety of the physical lock on the car (ie: not change the door locks)
however, from what i'm reading above (information from iichel) VCDS cannot remove the old key from the immobiliser and neither can it add a new key
sounds like i need to visit the automotive locksmith :)

just stumbled on the following article which suggests i need the original PIN/SKC to match keys for any generation of immoboliser
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer
so that definitely answers the question about whether VCDS can do it.. it can not :)
thanks to everybody for reading!
