Hi Folks.
My T5 2.5l has a high tickover. It started to climb some time ago, and is now just under 1000 rpm. I will post scans later, but do you guys have any obvious things I can check first please?

Wait, you said T5. That's presumably a diesel. My head is in Petrol land...

Please post a scan so we're not guessing what you've got.

Yes, 5 pot diesel. Do you need a full vehicle scan or just engine?

I know about the glowplug, the connector is damaged. Also the rear park assist!

Alternator problem? is the engine trying to compensate?

Diesels can have false air leaks too or fuel.

Verify the EGR circuits are not stuck open or anything else like a TV control with carbon.

You could also have faulty injectors where more fuel is administered than needed and raises the idle.

Indeed a weak battery maybe being tried to be compensated for as aforementioned.

Are any loads on but not actually on such as air conditioning or a regen from high ash/soot?

OK thanks, I will check EGR first. If Stephen Hawkings managed to succeed, then so will I..eventually. :-)

Yes, but I would not expect an air leak on a diesel to increase the idle RPM...

-Uwe-

Oh no we are showing our age Uwe! :p

All depends if it is open traditional manifold or being controlled with a TV and or "control off" assistance flap.

Side note!
When playing experimental HCCI or CF gasoline, I can tell you, you want that shut off device or control of air!

RUN AWAY!

I'd be interested in how you get on with this. :) I have T5 Transporter too, but no DPF on my old '04. Mine had started doing some odd things at idle that to me sounded like a load had been applied. So in a way it was almost the opposite to yours in that the idle was normal most of the time but then would dip. If you are happy experimenting with VCDS and at your risk you could try what I did and code out the load sensing function in the J519 just to see if it makes a difference. On mine this stopped the alternator DF code being set and stopped the idle speed dipping.

I'm absolutely not saying this is a cure, I think I may need a J519 or an alternator but I do seem to have a temporary fix. It would be interesting to know what battery voltages are showing in the J519 on your van, mine was showing 17.7v! But this mad voltage wasn't duplicated in any other controller.

^^^^^ All a bit techy for me at this stage :-) I'll stick to my toothbrush and carbon cleaner first! Hoping to take off EGR this weekend. I will report back.

Altering all aforementioned is altering an emission's device & since the DF load circuit is calculated or compensated for SMOG output.
