New VCDS owner - More than I expected...

    Well...

I own two (2) cars VAG cars, a 2010 Audi A3 (8P) (My car) and a 2013 VW Jetta SEL (Wifey's car). I decided to grab a HEX-V2 so I could activate the reversing/backup camera that I just installed on the Jetta - Rather than paying a VW dealership an hour of labor to make it happen.

Anyway. Prior to purchase, I looked at some videos on The YouTubes and read thru some of the HEX-V2 manual. Activating the camera seemed pretty straightforward. So. I managed to get that done, I also activated the Instrument/Gauge 'celebration' on the Jetta. EZ-Peezy.

Then I connected the set-up to my Audi. Managed to enable (disable?) the Fog Lights w/High Beams On. So. That's pretty cool.

Beyond all that, I'm not sure what else I should do. Learning (anything beyond very basic) features on this tool seems akin to learning another language...and I have enough trouble keeping English in my thinker.

I'm pretty sure I have successfully saved a logfile - and seem to have some faults (on the Audi). Going to try to post it below.

Not quite sure where to go from here...

    - I'd like to get the 'bulb out' warning(s) off the dash - which have been there since I installed LED bulbs.
    - I'd like to get the Air Bag warning light to disappear - it's been on since I took the passenger seat out to vacuum below it (yes, all wires were reconnected properly & verified as solid. twice, actually).
    - I don't think the radio faults are going away - as I've replaced the factory radio with an Android unit.
    - The 'misfire' doesn't seem to have occurred much - the coils were all replaced about 1500-miles ago.

    Thoughts?

    Any feedback is much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Brad R

No sure whether/how to do that with this BCM. Hopefully others will chime in.

Strange -- your airbag module shows no faults...

"Tuner Not Enabled" in the Digital/Sat Radio module just means you have no active subscription. I'd probably remove that module and untick its entry in the Gateway Installation List.

Do they come back if you clear them? How about the plugs? When was the last time they were changed? And of course, there's the possibility that they're due to carbon deposits on the intake valves...

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

    Uwe,

Thanks much for the reply. This type of work isn't totally foreign to me, but I am super-skeptical of making some change that totally turns one of my cars into a useless brick...That would be an annoyance I totally don't need in my life.

    Anyway.

Two (probably overly) simple questions just for my piece of mind.

    1. Having saved the complete scan for a vehicle (such as the one I embedded in my original post) is basically a 'safe restore' point for my car? Meaning, if I go and do something completely stupid & mess-up my programming, I can use the document to manually enter the 'long code' back into whatever module I wreak havoc on? Correct?

    2. On my Audi I attempted to go into Select Control Module > 17-Instruments and got a pop-up that is described on page-45 (section 19-A) of the VCDS Manual. This pop-up screen is simply asking which 'sub-module' I want to access? Correct?
    - The Software Coding, WorkShop Code & Importer Number are auto-populated with values...which I assume the VCDS is pulling from each (sub) module? Grabbing a screen capture of each module/values will give me a 'restore point' if needed in the future? I was hesitant to move forward, as I was afraid it would be changing some programming.

Sorry if these questions are too simple. As mentioned, I am just terrified by the idea of doing irreversible damage.

It's pretty hard to brick stuff with VCDS. Probably the most dangerous thing on those two cars is Byte 18 of the BCM (09: Cent. Elect).

Yes, an Auto-Scan in stock form gets you a record of all the stock codings. However, if you start changing Adaptations, it wouldn't hurt to make Adaptation Channel Maps of those modules first. See here.

    Mind posting a screen-shot?

Yes, they're all pulled from the module. And you already have a record of them in an Auto-Scan as well.
