Looks like no faults, even though MMI still doesn't let me into AudiConnect. Will mess with module 5F in a little bit. But all is well then??? Only 10 miles, but if I had a canbus issue, or some other crap, that'd be enough, correct? Only messed with module 17 (instruments), making changes nobody has posted (like changing pressure from kPa to PSI), but since my car doesn't have TPMS sensors, maybe it's irrelevant, but changed it anyway. He he. Have other questions/concerns that I saw, but you're probably not going to know since they're Audi S6 7.5 specific, so will have to ask at the Audi forum. For instance, saw 'cruise control system installed' not checked, and was wondering if I click it, if I could have both, like on my other cars. On this one, it's only adaptive or nothing. Also saw byte 2, bit 3-5 checked as 'Audi A6/S6 limousine', which makes no sense, but the other choices are avant, allroad, so maybe it's the correct one. Do you know what that particular bit range is for? Thx. Oh, also byte 10, bit 0 'brake pad warning active' was unchecked, which would be fine with me, but why? My main concers was with the codes. Hopefully you'll give my car a clean bill of health. Ha ha. Thanks Uwe.

Some coding bits do not match their description or are 'illogically' set, because:

- The model is too new. Ross-Tech basically has to 'reverse engineer' stuff to make it available to all us handy people. That does mean that some time goes by between a new model launching and all the coding- and adaptation descriptions matching again, or in some cases even having basic communication with a previously unknown control unit.

- The coding bits match, but the function is done by a different module. Example:

You have a sound system and a radio/navigation unit in your car. You are looking at the long coding helper of the radio/navigation unit with VCDS. You come across a bit that says '8 Speakers installed'. You look around and you count 8 speakers in your car. In this case somewhere else inside the radio, be it in the coding, adaptations or rarely the parameterization (invisible), the radio is set to output any audio directly to the sound system controller/amplifier. That unit is then controlling the speakers and all speaker settings in the radio will be off.

- The coding bit description is wrong. Example:

A bit could also just enable a certain 'pin' on the control module. Lets say you have a door control module. In the previous 100 car models that came before, pin 16 on this module supplied power to the door warning light (one of those red lights visible when you open your door). Byte 1 bit 2 is called 'Door warning light, installed'. Now you scan your new car, look at the coding of this door module and see said bit activated. You look at your door, but see you don't have a door warning light, just a reflector. Now after the panic has subsided, you uncheck that bit, save the coding and voila. Your inside door handle light/speaker illumination/illuminated door sill/whatever goes off. Thats because the coding bits on simpler modules usually just enable or disable a certain pin on the module. Because in the previous 100 years this bit and matching pin have always served the purpose of door warning light, thats a pretty big hint, but doesnt guarantee anything. After all, sometimes they like to mix things up.

It's just as feasible that your ABS module is guarding the brake pad wear sensors and just puts a message on the databus for the instrument panel to throw a warning. In a different model, the sensor might be hooked up to the instrument cluster directly or to a slave of the cluster. In which case the instrument cluster has to be told to enable a certain 'pin' or watch out for a specific message.

Very good points, thank you. And another example is being able to perform 2 tasks at different modules. I found one. To disable start/stop, you had to substract 4 to the value on channel 34 of the Central Electronics module (09). But I also found it on plain english on bit 2 of byte 11 of the central convenience module (46). My car already remembers the last setting, so no issue there (you can also program that by adding 32 to the value, if not set by the factory that way). But what annoyed the heck out of me was the 'off' bright LED constantly on, so reversed that by adding 64 to the value on that same channel 34, and worked perfectly, so best of both worlds (have S/S active in case I ever need it, and LED is on when 'on'). The good news is 'tree huggers' might think I'm cool because they think it's on. Ha ha.

One question for you though: I plan to find out how to solve my MMI issue, AND how to disable the MMI screen auto-retract, and I'm convinced both things are somewhere on the freaking module 5F. If I change something on that module, I cannot permanently damage anything, correct? I wouldn't mess with blind stuff, like bytes not coded at all; only with stuff that could make sense. I can always just go back to the previous value, no? In fact, I can just 'test' it, without saving it if it doesn't work. For instance, will try changing that channel 'IDE 10668' about the SIM card to 'always', and if it doesn't work either, put it back to 'never', like it was when I found it. Maybe it's something different, like an internal SIM card, although it triggered something when changed to 'auto' since MMI went thru several screens after clicking AudiConnect, before finally going to the same blue screen error screen about 'No data support. Please insert a SIM card'. Hopefully I can find how to enable the AudiConnect menu, or enable the data module which I turned off. I'm almost sure that would resolve the issue. It's always fun to play with stuff like this. He he. Hopefully I can help other Audi owners in the future. I already found some new stuff, like how to disable the auto-door lock and unlock that I wanted disabled. Thanks again for your great help.

Well, sometimes those units freak out when you change certain channels. I'm not really into the Audi variant of these 5F units, but if they're anything like VW's 5F units, the following applies:

- If the channel doesn't make sense to you, don't touch it.

- If the value of the channel doesn't make sense to you, don't touch it.

Worst case I believe you're looking at a trip to the dealer for an online reset, but still the adaptation channel list on these units is huge. If you want my help doing anything, at bare minimum I'd need to see an Admap of that unit.

This could just as well be a case of misunderstanding it. This channel could also refer so a SIM card slot that isn't on your car (hence why it was deactivated). The slot you have now could just as well be activated in any other way. If it was deactivated from the factory, thats your baseline. If it worked with that setting off, as illogical as it may seem, you need to turn it back off and look somewhere else.
Hopefully I can find how to enable the AudiConnect menu,

Again, without an Admap...
or enable the data module which I turned off.

See above

I'm almost sure that would resolve the issue. It's always fun to play with stuff like this. He he. Hopefully I can help other Audi owners in the future. I already found some new stuff, like how to disable the auto-door lock and unlock that I wanted disabled. Thanks again for your great help.

Remember the MMI unit also has a 'Green Menu', which is also used in enabling various things, aside from coding and adaptation channels.

Fix the thing you broke first.

Then log the adaptation channels, coding and (if you're gonna mess with that) green menu options BEFORE changing anything else. This is a very important step that helps you to prevent having to retrace your steps in fixing something that you broke. You don't work on anything without doing that first.

Good points again, but I need to make some more that you might not have understood.
1. First, I didn't know about 'Admaps', so need to research how to do that, so you can see it. Is that for each module, so in this case the 5F module? And thanks for the offer to help.

2. On the SIM channel I changed, I knew perfectly that it might not be where the SIM card is, but that wouldn't hurt anything, hence my decision to change it. I'll still try putting it to 'always', and if it doesn't work (as expected), will just put it back to 'never', like it was. I only change one thing at a time, and that's it so far. I won't touch another until I put it back to 'never'. Now, what you're not understanding is my AudiConnect USED to work, but stopped working. So for all I know, a channel must have been changed, and THAT is why it might be turned off when it should be on. This is not something I'm trying to change, like from auto-door-lock from on to off. It's something I'm trying to fix that was probably changed from what it should be by an electronic gremlin that struck my car. Makes sense now?:D

3. I was told repeatedly that 7.5 cars DO NOT have a green or hidden menu anymore. Or that you can't access it anymore (don't know which is true). If you know something I don't, please enlighten me:), and tell me how to access it. It'd be awesome. There're several things I wanted to change, but required the infamous green menu, and couldn't do it. To be honest, didn't even try to access it, for fear of permanently blocking something. Tried the security code of my 5F module, as a matter of fact, based on instructions for 7.0 cars, and failed. There was only 1 change, according to a warning, so probably blocked it forever. Hope I don't need a security code if I ever find the solution to both my AudiConnect issue and to stop the MMI screen from retracting every time ignition is cycled. Asked for the code but nobody replied. Also need the security code of the level control module (34) to be able to lower the car, but nobody has given it to me yet. I should be able to get it since many 7.5 owners already lowered their cars. If you have it, I'd like to have it, please:cool:. Thanks again for all your great help.
