Hi all,

Currently running 25W HID lamps (factory fit), and the light output is quite poor considering.

The current Headlight Dimming Voltage is set to 13V, so would it be better if i increased this to around 13.2V to give a slightly brighter light output?

Or do they run at maximum voltage anyway?

I realise this may shorten lamp life.

that's about a 1.7% increase in voltage. do you think it will make a difference? ;)

Dunno :D

Looking at lamp spec, it has a tested Voltage of 13.5V with a nominal voltage of 40V.

I was thinking (hoping) adjusting this would give a little more light as they do seem underwhelming for an HID lamp!

It has no effect to xenons. Ballast will regulate the voltage for the bulb so the output will be exactly the same no matter where you adjust the voltage.

How old are your bulbs? Xenons do tend to dim overtime as well. So if they're several years old, replacing them with fresh ones might brighten up the scenery :)

apart from that, I thought HID's nowadays are all 35W?

There are now 25W HID systems that produce less than 2000lm so don't need self-levelling or washer systems, at least in the EU :)

Exactly. VW Beetle and Skoda Rapid for example have 25w xenon system. And like langers2k already wrote, they don't need washers or automatic leveling as the output is less than 2000lm.

They are less than a year old with even less usage.

Problem is, for the D8S lamp, there are no other manufacturers that make an alternative either for me to try, unless i am missing something.

Shame, as they are ok on dry roads at night, but if they are damp they appear quite dim.

And 55W HID systems are available in the aftermarket too.
