Audi TT mk1 1.8t 225 quattro wandering / surging idle - no codes

Backstory of appreciation:
I've got about 5000 miles on the TT since my purchase... although it spent many months in the garage, since my many visits here in the past, it's been about a year of enjoyment on the road since replacing my complete rear differential + haldex. The only problem I've had since then is I burnt through my pre-cat O2 sensor wire when it hit the turbo inlet pipe, but not too hard to notice, diagnose or repair... other than the torch and torque needed to remove, jeez.

Present circumstances:
I'm back in my garage. It's January and been between 6 and 20 degrees lately, so I'm thankful for my garage or I'd probably be paying someone like Jack exorbitant fees to fix it in their garage.

I've got a surge in the engine rpms when starting or touching the throttle, and it's generally idling rough. (No codes show in VCDS at this time) . I've checked and re-checked my air hoses multiple times and found no leaks visually/manually/audibly. My initial research suggests the PCV is a common culprit. I've learned about the difference between the pancake valve and the PCV. The pancake valve seems to show OK -- I get reduced flow both directions when pulling a vacuum (with a vacuum) but still flows.

I'm looking for the PCV (035103245A) but can't seem to find it.

Every Single Thread I find online seems to show the PCV right off the 90 degree angle bracket under the intake manifold. It's a little pain to get at, but I opened it up a little and mine doesn't seem the same. Where could my PCV be? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any help appreciated.

Attached pics show my motor... timing case says engine is BEA, head stamp says AWM. I suspect a sordid past, but expecting it's probably a BEA since AWM doesn't seem to be a legitimate code for the TT.

My hoses:

https://ibb.co/cStkSR
https://ibb.co/dkcZMm
https://ibb.co/ga93E6 (bottom left of this pic shows the stuff that's centered in the other pics)

Side note -- This torpedo heater (30k - 60k btu battery OR AC powered, Mr Heater "Hero") is awesome for warming your garage, or even you butt laying in the driveway without an AC outlet around.

My baby is gathering dust -- any tips on where to find the PCV without taking everything apart?

Last I checked my labor rate was significantly lower than any competing dealer within 100K miles but okay ......seems like a reasonable comment considering how many people I help for nothing. Somehow maybe I pointed out something that probably embarrassed yourself over......... I apologize if one of my dick in your mouth brushing your teeth move comments maybe?

Anyway.......
Start crimping shit off for false air to isolate and see how it runs with MAF unplugged.

What is status in VCDS 0x01-04-060/063?

You may have damaged ecu in aforementioned history when you shorted the forward OXS by your fine workmanship or attention to details missed.

Even though there are no codes an auto-scan may reveal something.

Is car FOD modified?

OMG - I think you may have misread my sentence. I didn't say "paying Jack's exorbitant fees". I said "paying someone like Jack exorbitant fees". My statement makes no reflection on your actual fees, just the fact that people with your skills often have exorbitant fees. I personally agree that your fees are reasonable. You do have however, a very sharp sense of humour that occasionally crosses the line, but here you are still helping people out in spite of that. I appreciate it, thank you.

Ok, and I'll find out. Still don't know where the PCV is though.

Auto scan is clean, which is what I mean by no codes.. Sorry I should have been more clear.

What I've seen is the internal bumper is bent, and several of the engine and body plastics were missing when I got it. I believe that's it. Presumably the impact wasn't too bad or they would have replaced the bumper.

That is what you think and I am not ref codes only......I was asking to check firmware and codification as per TSB/RTFB but cant do that without a VIN number or a scan!

I tried to lookup the PCV location on ETKA (http://www.oemepc.com/) with the VIN, but it didn't come back as valid. (It does match the title and car badges though)

Ok - In line below...
Battery was low when I went to start.
I pulled the mass air sensor during testing, no change in engine running.
crimped most of the vacuum lines, no change.
It was misfiring every 5-10 seconds, not sounding healthy.

At idle:

Code:
20:17:50 Group 060
12.1 % Duty Cycle
87.1 % Duty Cycle
8 Count
ADP. O.K.

20:20:28 Group 063
14.5 % Duty Cycle
When pressing the throttle, the percentages changed smoothly and linearly. Not sure if you want a graph / log.

When I pulled the battery in the past, some of the readiness statuses didn't seem to reset, if I recall correctly. That is the only thing that seemed odd as far as I recall.

Car is modified than and should be re-flashed to stock to verify flash with latest part #

EVAP and SAI cant be ready before a CAT or OXS aging or OXS heater since they are used to qualify these tests before the CAT can complete.

FOD means that other things may also be unreported due to deletes for DTC's and fix the known shorts is advised too.

Does the date 1-27-2017 free TV consultation or emails ring a bell Joel?

Please cut the crap and fix the car correctly like you were advised in email a year ago.

Thank you

The car was clean of ANY errors for most of the year. After the O2 sensor it ran fine for about 1000 miles with no issues, again, clean scan. I don't suspect the ECU as an issue for that reason.

All the errors in this scan have appeared around 1/9 when I posted this.

I'm not sure

So.. I'm trying to focus on what's at hand.

If you don't want to help, don't help.

If you do, thank you.

Maybe I should start with the EGR short.

I already verified the ecu is indeed a problem a year ago for you for tampering and advised accordingly.

I'm just saying don't state you don't know why readiness monitors won't reset, when you dam well know I told you this already a year ago.

Dismissing the issue........ will only result in a compounded problem and maybe not seeing all of the stack data to be reported in a DTC.

The point is I am actually trying to help you but it starts with you being honest and open minded.

Your car doesn't have an EGR it has an EGT short.

The TV fault, MAF and the fact that voltages were shit, in addition to the tune on your ecu for FOD are most likely a reason for your surging issue.

You are basing your diagnostic methods on DTC's or no DTC's and when or if you get them.
If the car is FOD with inconsistent stack, it isn't telling you other DTC's, which I know it isn't, than how the hell can you proceed in such a ridiculous process?

You want help but you don't want help!

Do as you see fit..........
