Hello

To those who are interested in helping me , i found this Video on you tube with Ross-Tech in the background showing
some battery regulation in dedicated module 61 , and some cars battery management in subsystem of the gateway

I'm trying to help You. Your car doesn't have either of these systems. Battery charging wise, it is dumb as VAZ2106. - Maybe better electronics inside alternator only.'

Bottom line, change battery and live with it.

I agree with golfi_vend; this car is not equipped with a BEM, meaning it keeps no battery history data, and there's nothing that can or should be done with a scan tool when installing a new battery. The Gateway is also a pretty rudimentary one that simply doesn't support the Adaptation function.

Thank you guys :-)

Seems my alternator / charging system is as dumb as a Lada :-) , hahaha

The reason i wanted to "tell my car" about the new battery is that i got a good deal for a wet battery, Original is an AGM .
To my knowledge the wet battery needs a little higher charge voltage. hmm?

The voltage on my battery terminals hardly exceeds 14.25 volts even at high revs. Measured with a Fluke Multimeter.
Starting to think my regulator or brushes is worth taking a look at ?
The car is a 2006 `with 240.000 km on it.

Is it possible to retrofit the Battery Managment System ? New Gateway and newer alternator? Or is it an module between generator and battery.
For information my car has 2 batteries. I have an AUX battery in the trunk.

Many questions guys, but I am quorius and every day is a school day

Are You sure original is AGM? Or perhaps it might be, because 2 batteries. I've been running AGM, instead of WET and i have changed nothing. AGM is every way better too. NEVER EVER I'm gonna install WET if i can get AGM. I have also Webasto heater and AGM helps there too.

You can install battery monitoring module, but that means replacing the CAN-GW with one that supports it. Pointless in my eyes on B6. Alternator must be also changed to have effect, but that means different ECU, because current one uses DFM terminal from it and newer ones use info from gateway that is connected to alternator via LIN.
This system was used on Facelifted B6-s with Start/Stop system, but those also had Common-Rail. Etc...

Second battery is used for AUX.Heater and interior fan, it is charged in paralell with main battery via relay that connects when engine is running.

You may take a look at brushes and rings, but if this car has been taken care of i don't see why 14.2V is something to be conserved of.

A lot of bits to change , pointless on a B6 exactly.

The car has been taken good care of. The main problem with a 2006 B6 is unfortunatly rust

Brushes and rings. With rings do you mean the surface where the brushes connects with the rotor ?

I have the 180 amp generator and is quite expensive to change. The regulator is rated 14.5 volt but i never see this kind of voltage.
I have a feeling the generator is not delivering what it is supposed to. The last 6 months i see the voltage dropping to under 12.4 volt during the night(within 8 hours from stopping
the car).
Below 12.4 the sulfation prosess happens more rapidly.

If the battery voltage drops that rapidly then either the battery is in bad condition or there is something taking too much current from the battery.

Another member joining to answer and help me. You guys are the best :-)

The battery is under one year old , but as mentioned earlier it is a Wet battery and not an AGM. Wet batteries needs a higher charging voltage. and therefore it might not get the charge it is supposed to since my charge voltage is low.

I removed the regulator/brushes from the alternator today and it did not look good. Forgot to take a picture of the brushes , but they are about 1cm shorter than a set of new ones and the therefore pretty low springpreassure.

Take a look at the picture of the rotor / sliprings. there is excessive weawr on one of the rings

That's bad. It is possible to restore them, but You need to find a specialist, cause it is not DIY job.

Ordered sliprings and bushes on Ebay. :-) About 100 Nok with shipping . Thats about 10 £

Found an instruction video on Youtube. Seems "easy" enough. it is worth a try.
I have a soldering certificat from education in the millitary so it will be after "millitary standards".
The case on this job is to have a powerfull enough soldering iron

I will post pictures of the jobb and give you information on how the output of the alternator will be after it is done
