Hi,

This is my first post in Ross-Tech forum.

I have a 2016 VW Golf SportWagen S 1.4 TSI M/T (ROW Spec) and I bought a couple of OEM Xenon W/LED Headlight (W/O side markers) 5GM 941751 B / 5GM 941752 B.

Before start the headlights retrofit, I checked about this topic in the Ross-Tech and Golf MK7 forum, and to get this process the BCM and CAN Gateway I noticed that will be necessary to replace for “Highline” version.

I checked my BCM is the reference 5Q0 937 086 AH (BCM PQ37BOSCH 028 0162) and in the CAN Gateway is the reference 5Q0 907 530 AG (GW MQB Low 210 2246), then considering these parts are “Lowline”, I have to replace BCM (my byte 2 does not have a choice of xenon), CAN Gateway (my cannot support AFS, but I do not care about this function).

After replace these parts I have to go to the dealer who will to remove the “protect component” with FAZIT, besides make VAGCOM adaptation coding changes by myself.

I would like to confirm if in my case is it possible to follow this process to retrofit and, just in case, could someone provide me what changes I have to apply in light channels considering my vehicle?

Best Regards,

Mitio

Please make it a good habit to start with an autoscan. Even though your TS is quite comprehensive, it is always helpful :)

VWTSI: In addition to the stuff that you have said, it might be prudent to grab a copy of a WD for your Sportswagon. If you look at the connector on your new headlight assemblies, you should find that they have 14 x pin connector (assuming that they are true OEM). A quick look at your old incandescent headlight fittings should confirm that they have a 10 x pin connector. So, stuff is connected differently between the two types of headlight assemblies and the Xenon factory loom has additional wires.

You will need to decide how you will manage this difference - either you will need to install additional wires to the car's headlight loom from the new BCM, or you will need to install a cross wiring loom at your existing incandescent lamp connector (and of necessity, lose some functionality from the OEM set-up). Either way, this decision will be a prime determinant for what changes that will be required to the Leuchte-sets in your BCM.

I'm sure that you will receive further advice from other colleagues here after you post-up an auto-scan

Don

EDIT: which you have just done!

Hi Don,
Thanks for your response.
You are right, the OEM Xenon Headlights have 14 x pin connector and the currently incandescent headlight have 10 x pin connector. I already bought a 10 to 14 pin adapter connector.
I would like to install the OEM Xenon Headlights with fewer changes in my Sportswagon even if I lose some functionality like auto leveling and AFS for example, but with Xenon Lamps low/high beam, Led and DRL working without error messages on dashboard.
If it is possible to retrofit without exchange my BCM, it would be great.

Hello Guys,
Please find below my 2016 Golf Sportswagen WD.
It is my first time handling this type of information, sorry if I made some mistake or did not provide enough information.
I really appreciate if someone could help me to retrofit my OEM Xenon Headlights.

CAN

Hi Don,
Thanks for your response.

VWTSI: Hmm............ I'm not familiar with the road rules in Brazil- but will your modified car still be street legal if you fit HIDs without auto leveling? Even down here in the world's back-water, it's mandatory to fit auto-leveling and washers when the car has HIDs!

As to your question as to whether your existing BCM/ CAN Gateway will suffice, it's really difficult to say without knowing a whole lot more about the degree of "OEM-ness" of the new headlight fittings and the nature of the cross wiring loom. I'm aware of some folk making cheap Chinese knock-off fittings work (which are meant to be OEM) with low-line BCMs, but I'm also aware of many problems when using these fittings. The irony is that the closer the new fittings are to true OEM, the less likely it is that your old control modules will be compatible with your new headlight fittings

Assuming that Brazil's road rules do permit such retro-fits, you might consider first trying a temporary wiring arrangement and some experimentation - perhaps on one side of the car. Just as a suggestion, perhaps set-up one of the new fittings temporarily (without actually installing it on the car) with the cross wiring loom hooked-up onto the 10 x pin connector and then make some simple Leuchte programming changes to the BCM. This should at least give you a sense of the size of the problem if you keep the existing control modules (perhaps).

Don

Not really, if you code BCM to xenon you will have fault on cluster but not in bcm, but if you don't code xenon your lights will flicker, there is possibility to use Chinese HID decoders, error cancelers but do you really want to use those?
