I don't think VCDS will show if a vehicle has add the VW emissions update. When it has been done they mark or put a sticker on the service schedule/handbook with a code. I forget the code number without search my other VW forum.

I've had 7 letters about VW emissions update, each one says it won't effect performance or fuel con. You can Google this and loads say performance has dropped and fuel con has gone down.

I called in my VW dealer to ask about this software update on 2.0 TDI and intake mod on 1.6 TDI. I asked if I have it done and I find problems can the original software be put back, they said NO. I said forget it then. This update isn't compulsory in the UK because we don't do a NOx check on the MOT, its mainly USA.

USA is the only country that has a buyback scheme. Obviously USA has a big VW market but what about the rest of the world. They can have mine back with pleasure as there are a few things I've hated about my Golf which I've found out since.

The ECU's software part number will change. VCDS will show that. But the trouble is, you need to know which software part numbers are from prior to the fix and which ones incorporate the fix.

Oh, and in this particular case, googling "Part No SW: 03L 906 018 GC" turns up scans with that part number from as far back as early 2015.

So I think we can safely say that this part number does is not an "emissions fix" software.

FWIW; since your ECM is tuned - we have seen plenty of cases where tuners meddled with the part numbers and identification. So technically, the version shown/displayed may not be the version actually stored/used in the ECM. Long story short, if in doubt - talk to your tuner.

The FRF was 9780 which I checked then he tunned that version , and checking after remap it's still 9780 . Before it had the back to a factory restore file installed it was 9979 .

However I thought all the 9 series's software was the emmisons vw update series

No, they were not. Basing a tuning on that old version is IMO not the best of ideas. As there have been a bunch of non-emission fixes in the latest versions.
