Hey, I am new to VW and diesel cars. I recently bought a 2005 Passat TDI with 135k that needed some work. It starts, runs, and drives a little. I have not driven it much. When I first got it home, every time I put it in reverse it would take about 4 seconds to engage and then slam into reverse. If I put it in neutral before going into reverse, it would engage reverse just fine.
The previous owner said the dealership told them it would need a new torque converter. I purchased VCDS from ross-tech and did the auto scan. I believe the issue is the TCM. I removed all the seats and carpet before running the autoscan, thats why the airbag issues came up on it I believe.
The main issue is the TCM from what I am seeing. The code I am worried about is P0603. The old TCM was wet along with all of the wiring going to it. I found the ground splice as well as the 12v power splice close to the TCM. Both looked a little corroded but were still in tact I believe. The plug on the TCM harness showed voltage on all prongs except the 3 grounds obviously. So I am thinking that the wiring is okay, and the actual TCM is to blame. I tried to soft code it but It kept coming up with an error.
I think I am going to try and find a used TCM but I just wanted to see if you guys think that that is probably the issue. I would hate to replace that and realize I also need a torque converter and transmission after spending money on the TCM. I would rather just manual swap it at that point but my wife doesn't know how to drive manual so I would like to keep it automatic if possible.
Any input would be appreciated. And if anyone has a TDI TCM laying around feel free to PM me with what you are asking for it.
Below is a copy of the auto scan.
Thanks ahead of time!
