Hi guys/gals.

How does VCDS find the engine code in log file, from the ecu?

When I scan my Golf GTD it shows:

Address 01: Engine (CBB) Labels: 03L-906-022-CBA.clb

I know its abbreviated from CBBB. It shows CBB on the timing belt cover again why do VW abbreviated it?

Older vehicle scans all show:

2005 Audi Q7 TDI V6
Address 01: Engine Labels: Redir Fail!

Even though it shows a few error codes.

2006 Seat Leon 1.9 TDI
Address 01: Engine Labels: 038-906-019-ARL.lbl

2004 Audi A3 2.0 TDI
Address 01: Engine Labels: 03G-906-016-BKD.lbl

2008 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI
Address 01: Engine Labels: 03G-906-016-BKC.lbl

I know I can send you the file with Redir Fail! with a map.

I see a lot of engine codes in AutoScans on here.

In the case of label files, it looks up the ECU's part number. With the crazy proliferation of engine codes that VW undertook starting in the mid 2000's, it's often the case that one label file covers numerous different engine codes, so the name of the label file may not match the actual engine code.

I've just seen another one 2017 Audi Q7 Address 01: Engine (J623-CREC) Labels: None

Why does it show Engine Control Module (ECM) (J623)?

Manufacturer: Audi, Date(s) Used: 01/2015-, Model: Audi Q7, Engine Code: CREC, 245Kw, 333PS, 3.0 Ltr, 6 Cyls, Remarks: V6

With loads of other Audi models.

Many newer ECUs know their own J-number and Engine Code, in which case VCDS reads that info directly from the ECU. :)
