So here's my deal. I've had no issues connecting VCDS to my cable up until recently. I'm not really sure what, if anything changed.

I'm on a Mac (v10.12.6) Sierra beta, using VMware on a Windows 7 vm.

When I press Test, the error message I get is:

"Ross-Tech USB Interface Not Found!
USB Library Version: 03.02.07
Interface: Not Found!"

If I look at the Mac's system information it sees the USB cable.

Any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?

Try this ..

1. Remove USB-port from VMWare-profile.
2. Add (new) USB-port to VMWare-profile.
3. Re-install VCDS inside VM, making sure you get to re-install the VCDS USB-driver (again).
4. Test VCDS

No guarantee of success, but couldent hurt either .. I think :-)

Thanks for the tip. Sadly, it didn't work.

For step 1. I pressed the Remove USB Controller button in the settings panel for my vmware profile.

Next, I uninstalled VCDS, then reinstalled.

After testing, same error message as above.

More data points: the mac and vmware see the cable. It seems only VCDS does not.

Any other suggestions?

I'd suggest finding a real PC to test it on, just to eliminate variables, i.e. the possibility that this 12 year old KEY-USB has simply decided to give up the ghost.

Hi!

Yes, I had once similar problem with Hex v2 cable. The problem was a bit in a different environment as I was using Oracle Virtualbox.
But the solution was to reset Mac NVRAM and SMC reset.

HTH, but keep us posted!

As a start Mac shouldn't be able to see the VCDS cable connected to the USB port, if it is assigned to only connect to your Windows VM - are you sure that it is connected to the windows VM ??

And if I remember correct, then your port on the VM should be set to USB 2.0 - 3.0 doesn't work with Windows 7

I don't have a real PC readily available to test with. My current environment/configuration has been working flawlessly for several years and the cable has always been used carefully so it seems more likely that it's an software incompatibility issue, maybe related to a version upgrade somewhere.

Was your cable previously working then stopped working and this solution fixed it?

Just trying to get a sense for how similar these problems are.

Yes. Cable was working and then one day after starting a VM it just did not work. Neither the restart of a Mac nor VM (Windows 10) did not help in any way.

After a SMC and NVRAM reset USB was working correctly.

Does your VM sees all other devices attached to your USB? Or just the cable itself? Ex USB HDD drive, Flash, SD card reader etc?

Hmm, okay thanks. I'll try resetting SMC & NVRAM.

I was getting driver errors when connecting other devices via USB so that's good.

I see you're running the macOS beta, I've seen unusual behaviour (not VCDS related as I use a W10 tablet for VCDS) on my MacBook Air with various beta releases over the past year.

I wonder if some change in the macOS beta could be the problem?

This is my suspicion too and I'm hoping it'll be resolved in future updates.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Thanks for all the help!

Issue resolved but surprisingly!

My Mac sees the cable now. Not exactly sure how but I think the issue may have been with VMware because the only change recently was a VMware upgrade.

Sorry that I can't provide more details, I kind of forgot about it until one day I noticed VMware asking where I wanted to connect a USB device.

Anyway, all good. Thanks again for everyone's help!
