It looks like I've settled upon using a MK5 Jetta cluster with a full MFD ... I'll just have to adapt it to the Passat dash so it looks "factory". Concerning the Temp/fuel gauges ... I'm using a Jetta fuel pump, and it works fine with the Passat fuel gauge. So I'm not sure why they didn't work in the Jetta cluster ... although the cluster I used WAS damaged.

How much would you charge ... and what would you need from me ... to do the transponder chip? The VIN from the Jetta Instrument Cluster I end up using? You really only need to send me a programmed chip ... I could epoxy it to the coil.

Also, I got to thinking about this ... I'll probably just mount the epoxied chip / coil assembly WITHIN the instrument cluster itself ... and wire it internally. That would eliminate any wiring.

Just let me know.

I now own a "Passetta"!

Yesterday I purchased a good used 2009 Jetta cluster with a full MFD (from the guy I bought the 2.5 engine from) ... I installed it, did all the ABS basic settings, cleared all the faults, and then drove the car for a while. Everything seems to work fine, including the Temp. and fuel gauges ... although obviously, I'm still getting the "Immobilizer Active" message.

I even tested the car on a gravel parking lot to check the ABS ... and it seems to work fine.

After installing the complete Jetta cluster, it looks like it won't be that difficult after all, to modify the Passat dash to match the cluster ... I'm going to look at that in more detail today. My number one priority is that it looks "factory" and not like a "chop-job". I'll post some pictures of the dash on Flickr when I get it done.

I'm also going back to him today to see if I can get the key and key tumbler from the same car ... which would eliminate the "Immo Active" message. As I said before, I'll probably just mount the epoxied chip / key / coil assembly WITHIN the instrument cluster itself ... and wire it internally. That would eliminate any external wiring.

Once I eliminate the "Immo Active" warning, I'll have to verify that I can access the MFD menu and all of it's functions. So, other than some minor details, and the paint job and bodywork, it looks like the car is pretty much completed.

I now own a "Passetta"!

I ended up purchasing a Jetta LowLine cluster ($20) with matching ignition key. I couldn't find a MFD cluster WITH the key ... and the cluster I purchased before, didn't have the key, and I discovered it was for a Diesel - only a 6000 RPM Tach.

I inserted the key into the key tumbler with reading coil, wired it to the cluster, mounted the key tumbler/reading coil under the dash behind the cluster and ... NO "Immobilizer Active" warning!

In the future, If I decide to install a full MFD Jetta cluster, it will be relatively easy. Just purchase a cluster with the matching ignition key ... insert the key in the tumbler behind the dash ... Install the cluster, and it should work fine!
