Smile NEED HELP! Security Access Error, Controller Refused Key, Error 35

    Hi Guys,

    My first Ross-Tech post, Yay!

I'm having an issue with my Ross-Tech Hex Net. I bought it about 8 months ago direct from RT so it's fairly new and should be registered (I also just registered it via the VCDS interface, Still haven't got the Finalize email though). I have already used it to scan my 2016 Golf R and do some adaptations a couple months ago. Some of the adaptations required a security code (31347) and the security code used to work. It seems after a firmware update (Or maybe some other reason) the code no longer works. I tried some others found here on the forum as well with no luck. I really need to make some changes and have hit a wall.

Some details about my setup :

    • I hook the Hex Net up Via USB Cable

    • I am running windows 10 in "Parallels" on a macbook pro. (This worked in the past, but I'm on a new machine with a new install of win 10, i doubt this is the problem but maybe worth mentioning)

    • VCDS starts up and runs fine

    • Hex Net connects to, and communicates with the car just fine.

    • I am able to scan the car for issues

    • I do work on my car in my parking garage which is under ground with no wifi or cell connection (Not sure if this matters)

    • I moved my car outside my apartment where I was in range of my own WiFi, and the security code still did not work (Not sure if this matters for security access but I saw someone mention connecting to your servers in another post, figured maybe it needed WiFi connectivity?)

    • Maybe worth mentioning... the computer I was using running VCDS that the Hex Net was connected to, was connected to my WiFi, but the VCDS itself was not. I noticed later you can go into settings and connect the Hex Net itself to WiFi.

Any help getting a working Security code is much appreciated!

What module are you trying to use this security code on? They're specific to the module..

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you're using the full VCDS (as opposed to VCDS-Mobile) an internet connection is not required.

If its module 09 then I have the same issue on my MK2 2016 Tiguan. SA has never worked, maybe your firmware update has changed it to the same as mine? Odd 31347 works on some 09 and not others.

weshkaiboy: Interesting news! Are you sure that this is a systemic problem? I've changed adaptation channels from the mk2 Tiggy here in the Antipodes (for local forum members) without difficulties and there have been no reports of problems with the SA for the BCM on the Tiggy posts here.

Don, we have discussed this before and I am sure that 31347 does not work (I have tried multiple times). I was making an assumption as the OP did say it did work and now it doesn't after a firmware update.

Trust me I would love 31347 to work as I have lots of 09 coding to do!

This code worked perfect on my MK1 2014 facelift.

Check my scans, you might find the modules are different compared to the ones you have adapted.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses I'm trying to do the LED coding on my 2016 Golf R. Which i believe is : Select Control Module > Electronics 1 (Tab) > 09-Cent. Elect. > Adaptations. But... When I go to make the change it tells me I need to put in the security code, so I go to a different screen to do that and that is when I get the error message.

I'll try to get back out there today to double check my work to make sure it's not user error and maybe record it.

Hi Guys, Quick update : I got it working with 31347. Not sure why it decided to work today but it did. The only difference between last time and this time is, last time I just had the ignition on, this time the car was running. Does that make a difference?

Also, there is an "09- Cent. Elect. button under both the "Installed" tab and the "Electronics" tab, are these different or do the buttons go to the same place?

VCDS needs a User Experience designer so bad...

The buttons that appear under the "Installed" tab are controllers that have been marked as installed in your CAN Gateway. So this tab provides easy access to all of the controllers that are installed in your vehicle.

The other tabs are categories of controllers but the buttons that appear under each of these aren't necessarily controllers that are installed in your vehicle. It is just a definitive list of ALL possible controllers. If you try and access a controller that is not present in your vehicle using a button under one of those other tabs then VCDS just won't be able to contact that non-existent controller.

The "09-Cent. Elec." button under the "Installed" tab and the one under the "Electronics" tab both open the same controller.

I will try the car running as you had exactly the same error I keep getting with the ignition on. I will update.
