I recently purchased a 2004 Audi S4 with only 19,000 miles! :) It spent most of its life at a doctors summer vacation home (always garaged). However, he only had one key. :( So I rented a Vagtacho cable and retrieved the immobilizer PIN. I purchased some key fobs and had the keys cut, then I used VCDS to add the immobilizer chips. Piece of cake!

Next, program the remotes. I tried every method I could find with no success. Then I realised I could use VCDS to add them. However, I can not access the CCM (46). I just keep getting "No response from controller".

One odd behaver I have with the car, when I open either door the interior light comes on for one second then turns off. Everything else on this car works perfectly (no check engine light). It does have an after market radio so of course I do get a communications fault code. I also get one other fault code. 02010 - Left Entry Assistance Control Module (J572) 79-00.

I forgot to add there is a small parasitic drain on the battery (car locked) of about 160ma. Could a bad Left Entry Assistance Control Module be the cause of all my problems?

Need to check for the Holy Trinity for the CCM:

G8YGwbm.jpg

While doing hands on with it, see if there are signs of water in there... the CCM is located in a "dry box", but.... We've seen a lot of cases of those things with water damage.

Also, double check your ABS module for fault codes:
No Faults Found
or DTCs not supported by controller
or a communication error occurred

When you get that response while checking for code, the control module and VCDS are not seeing each other eye to eye. I think the simple reason is VCDS ask "Any fault codes?" and normally the module responds with "Yes, here is the list" or "Nope". In a case like this, VCDS didn't get a response back from the ABS, so technically, VCDS has no fault codes to report.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll pull the box from under the seat and take a look. And also check the ABS module for fault codes. :)

I finally got some tripple square sockets and some time to work on my car. After removing the drivers seat I unplugged both ends of the cables and all the connectors looked perfect. So I then opened the comfort control module and low and behold, corrosion on several areas of the board from water infiltration.

So I gota buy a new module. I'm kinda afraid to buy a used one. Any suggestions on were to get a new one at a reasonable price?

@Jef I forgot to mention I have no 'dry box' under my seat. Just 2 control modules mounted to a bracket.

Even stranger the CCM I have does not look anything like the ones listed for my car. Mine has 2 connectors on top. One is a standard push on type and the other has a lever that locks it in place. It looks nearly identical to the seat memory controler module.

All the comfort controler modules I have found new or used have 5 connectors on the side. I can't even find a single picture anywhere that shows a CCM that looks like mine. I can't be the only one!

Any idea what I have or were I can find a replacement?

Thank you for your help.

There are two boxes under my seat, part numbers: 8H0959760A and 8H0959760. The box with the 'A' at the end of the part number says 'Easy Access' on the label. This control module is the one with water damage. I purchased a replacement on eBay and the seller assured me it was a BRAND NEW unit. I received the module and it is absolutely used. All scuffed up and has impressions on the mounting tabs, so it was definitely installed in a car. The board inside however looks perfect. Manufacturer date code is 2009. So I tried installing it. Same problem and error codes. :( Can not communicate, still can't access the settings to add the remotes, and the interior light still does the same thing. I actually have a new problem now with this replacement unit, the front to back seat position is not saved in memory. All other settings are saved except for that. I don't know what to do next.

Sorry I didn't take any pictures and I cleaned all the corrosion off the board in my first attempt to see if I could get the CCM working. There were several small areas where the solder was so corroded it was creating a bridge/short between pins on some of the components.

I just came to realize that this control module is tied to the vehicle's VIN. I'm still a newbie and learning. I am trying to find the procedure for replacing a CCM. I thought I had figured out how to add or replace the control module in VCDS but it won't accept my security PIN. I know it's right because I used it last month to add several new immobilizer chips for some new keys.

I just did a new full scan with the new control module. Hopefully someone can help me. I believe I need to download the settings from the old one and then load them into the new one.

There was still no 46-Cent.Conv. shown in your scan. You will definitely need to have it talking before you can look into what else may be needed.

FYI, I don't believe it is tied to the VIN in this car. You should be able to swap in a replacement, make sure the Coding is correct, and Adapt the remotes:

I didn't realize this was a Cabrio at first but several modules are actually missing in this car. I'm assuming all of them are on the Comfort bus but you would need to check wiring diagrams to be sure:

Address 09: Cent. Elect.
Address 16: Steering wheel
Address 26: Auto Roof (noted for water ingress/damage)
Address 46: Central Conv.
Address 63: Entry Assist,D
Address 73: Entry Assist, P

46 should have been under the carpet, driver's side, but if it isn't there and you can't locate an alternative location in the repair manual I would go on a search mission. Someone may have relocated it and the harness to it to get it out of the flood zone.

Thank you for the replies everyone. This car is driving me crazy and I'm doing my best to learn how all this stuff works. I'm very persistent and never give up but I still don't fully understand how to use this software.

How do I check the settings and or change them to match the old module? I'm not sure of the procedure and don't want to screw anything up.

Well the installed modules need to communicate before you can code or adapt them. Since you have so many that are still not communicating I would personally leave the least important ones disconnected. IMO that would be 63 and 73.

The most important modules would be 09, 16, 26 and 46 but check the wiring diagrams for all of those systems to see which Databuses they are wired to, how they're powered, etc.. If the vehicle has a single malfunctioning module on a CAN High / Can Low (2-wire communication system) Comfort Databus it could crash communication to all of them. Locating 26 and 46 would be my personal starting point.

Well I absolutely found the problem. Everything I read said the CCM was under the drivers seat. I have two boxes under the drivers seat, but no CCM. No one ever mentioned it's under the carpet under the drivers seat!!! I finally read on a forum today that it's under the carpet in the foot well.

Soaking wet under the carpet of course. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment. The questions is do I need to replace the connectors or harness as well?

No one mentioned it because you are supposed to RTFB using the component locators.
Clean the connections up.........totally reusable.

Really you can transfer the data from the old one to the new one? Other than my preferred seating position what settings is there that needs to be transferred? :)

All the key remote & CP/Data and settings that are currently in the unit.

Nice pics.......... :D

I didn't get a manual yet. I have a cart full of stuff on ECS that I'll be buying tonight. I added the Bentley manual yesterday.

I only have one original remote and that stopped working when I removed the Easy Entry module. I had some keys cut and I have two new remotes. Just need to add them after everything is working and accessible via VCDS.
