Bremmen (ECS) Auto Light Switch problem. Code it out?

I would appreciate help in finding a way for VCDS to fix this weird Bremmen / ECS Auto Light Switch situation. I've added a fresh auto-scan at the very end of this post.

My car, Jetta VI facelift (2016) Jetta S 1.4L PQ25 , and I are having weird issues with the ECS/Bremmen auto switch, including a couple short videos and photos of the light switch terminal below that document the issues.

Also, the instructions from ECS are only for the 3-plug (Black/White/Tan) BCM, while I have the PQ25 (73a + 72b harnesses). ECS website includes my car in the fitment chart and "does this fit your car?" dropdown thingy.

The ECS instructions say to run their included repair wire (a retail bargain at $1 per 1 inch of .5mm cable!*) from the lightswitch harness T10/3 to BCM T73a/19.

I found my pin (through visual inspection and consulting erWin) T73a/19 already has the wire from the "Driver door contact switch", while T10h/3 at the light switch has a wire going to 73a/45 in the BCM. According to PoloBlue pin 73a/45 is "terminal 58 input from E1, SB7" and after comparing elsawin and erWin, I think T10h/3 is a power (15 or 30?) line from BCM to switch or visa versa.

I believe the DRLs are connected to the switch from T10h/9 into BCM T73/b29.

ECS, I've already tried it on your product, and it works. Feel free to verify this and add it to your product instructions.

Here is how to program leaving/coming home with these switches:

Think of the switch positions as 0, 1, 2, 3 (off, auto, parking lights, headlights)

1. Turn the light switch to position “1”, Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
2. Turn the switch quickly to positions 3, 1, 3, 1

If you accidentally turn the switch to “0”, start over with step 1

Once you’ve successfully finished the sequence, you’ll hear a beep, and lights on the switch and instruments will flash 3-4 times. Before the lights stop flashing:

3a. To disable lh/ch: Turn the light switch to the “3” position. You’ll hear a longer beep, indicating the programming session is over. The leaving/coming home feature is now disabled in the switch.

3b. To enable lh/ch: Wait for the flashing to stop, then count time in your head or your favorite timepiece. This will be the time that your exterior lights will remain illuminated after you turn off the car and how long they will remain illuminated when you arm or disarm the alarm.

4. Once the desired time has passed, turn the switch to “3” and then back to “1”. You have now enabled leaving/coming home in the light switch.

Note: None of the above makes, nor could it make, any changes to the BCM’s leaving/coming home functionality. The BCM lh/ch feature is activated differently and you may prefer it over the way this light switch does it. Get a Ross-Tech VCDS cable to enable that functionality if you want it.

The guy who created the video below bought an unbranded version of the switch from Amazon (the same switch that ECS sells under the name Bremen.) Most of the instructions he lays out in this video are spot on. I could only piece together the above steps thanks to information from a couple of people in the video’s comments section. Something good came from the comments section. Amazing.

I bought the same switch featured in the video from Amazon, and it sure does look exactly like the one I bought from ECS! The difference is the ECS switch’s box has ECS's internal inventory sticker slapped on top of the manufacturer’s sticker. ECS also adds a repair wire to the box contents, but it is not needed for my 2016 MkVI facelift Jetta S (BCM PQ25 MMI3)

I also verified the programming instructions above and those in the video work for the ECS switch just like the generic from Amazon.

This video explains:
  • How to program the lighting conditions you’d like to use for triggering parking lights and for headlights.
  • How to program a delay in automatic light change. This will prevent the lights from flicking on and then off as you drive through a shadow during the day.
  • How to link your fog lights to your parking lights. This could be good during terror twilight and when prowling for a parking spot in a covered lot.
  • How to link your fog lights to your headlights if you are among the most annoying motorists on the planet.
