Can I do any of the following without connecting to a PC?

-Update ASAM data
-Connect the HEX-NET to infrastructure
-Check for updates

It looks like I should be able to do some of this stuff without connecting to a PC but i'm not sure and i'm not techie when it comes to this sort of stuff. Am I doing something wrong? It would seem that if I am connected to the HEX-NET I could not be connected to the internet where the updates would need to come from unless it was already able to connect to the infrastructure. I don't have a PC and don't really want to get one.

If the HEX-NET is in AP mode this is true, the interface is broadcasting it's own local network disconnected from the internet. However, if you have it connected to your home/shop wifi then it has internet access through that wifi, and if you have it connected through a wifi hotspot on your phone, then it can get internet access from your phone's data plan.

But is there a way to connect the HEX-NET to my home network without connecting to a PC? That's the first step to get the other two done but it seems to require a PC, correct?

It is easier to set up with a PC, but generally not required. With the interface in AP mode, you can connect to its network with your phone, in VCDS-mobile go to [Options] -> [Network options] -> [Advanced profile config] and type in the info for your home network. Then use the red button on the interface to toggle it out of AP mode to your home network which you just entered, if everything goes correctly the middle LED should now be green. Then you need to switch your phone back to your home network to access the interface.

That makes more sense. I'll have to play with those settings.

OK. So I got connected to the infrastructure network on my 2.4 network. The issue now is that I am getting garlbled codes that i can't read. I was hoping this would be pretty plug and play. Any thoughts on the following:

Self Test Results:

Not sure if I should have "Replied" to you to notify so i'm doing it here.

I have switched your interface to the beta updates channel, where there is a newer dataset available. Please check for updates again to download that update, and then try the scan again.

I did the update 4 times. It says "Update completed successfully. You may now resume using the interface". But I now get a bunch of garbled text on the Main Screen, scanning in AP mode still says "ROD- unkown faultcode", and if I check for updates it still says:
A dataset update is available. This update may take several minutes to perform. Please be patient. Once started, you will be unable to use the interface until the update is complete. Do not press the back button or remove the interface from power until the update has finished. If you do not wish to download this update now, you will be reminded about it again at a latter time.
To download this update manually, go to "Options" - "Check for Updates"

You had several Dataset Updates to perform, and without a PC these need to be done incrementally, please continue with the updates until it says you are up to date.
